So Jurassic Park is about a group of rich people who don't understand that biology is far more complicated than "there are only two genders" and how this ignorance toward gender fluidity in nature causes these rich people to lose their money and die.

Not a fully formed thought, but it’s also concerning how much of this is an open secret in Washington (feel like I’m repeating myself lately….), reporters trade sex for access & blow, and to be clear this is both men & women

i don't have much of an opinion on what kinds of sex work should be legal, but i have a very strong opinion that journalism should not be a kind of sex work

There needs to be a Knives Out movie where Benoit Blanc brings his Southern folksiness and eloquent elocutions to the world's first space hotel where he has to solve a murder and Anne McClain should appear in a supporting role as herself.

This is actually incorrect.

She was falsely accused by her wife at the time, and there was no actual crime here.

Everyone’s talking about Milpay, but reminder that USDA is currently using excess 25 funds to pay for WIC and School Lunch. They say they have like maybe a month of that left.

Red States are going to lose their fucking minds if they can’t draw those soon.

The mechanism through which Trump is paying the troops is the most blatant large Antideficiency Act (ADA) violation in US history. It's also clearly willful. No one has been charged under the ADA before, but violations carry a two-year jail term. The statute of limitations is five years.

People have a hard time conceptualizing it, but it's no different from accepting that mold infiltrating the timbers, or the foundation being ill-set, is not the same thing as the walls cracking or the roof caving in. That one may lead to another does not make them alike, even in kind.

there have been a lot of responses to this arguing that young Republicans were motivated by such feelings but didn't express them openly

and I think a crucial lesson of the Trump era is that there is great value in people not expressing these things openly! that's a big and decisive change!

For those tempted to say Young Republicans have always been this way, they really have not. When I worked on campus and did bipartisan college events after, they were very much not like this.

That’s why groups like YCT and eventually TPUSA formed — because Young Republicans weren’t radical enough.

My parents' generation was super racist, but they took pains to hide it from us. So a lot of young conservatives in the 90s and early aughts were earnest small government and/or evangelical types.

As I said, the overt racists and radicals had to form their own orgs.

it is not enough to be in charge, or even feared, they must be adored

In some ways this is overdetermined. Tulsi grew up in a Hare Krishna offshoot that espouses the Evola shit's outer doctrines. The French New Right and their evil little books have obvious Traditionalist influences going down. Yarvin dumbs Guénon down to his own intellectual level for CEOs.
effinvicta.bsky.social
This is part of why I think the occultist/Trad/Evola connection is an overarching intellectual motivator behind a lot of these people, because it at least makes that belief digestible as a delusion induced by religious ecstasy...

this administration is held up and together by negative polarization, but they're also basically running a natural experiment in trying to break negative polarization so we get to find out just exactly how far it'll carry them ig

at some point the country is going to wake up to the fact that most people in it live in cities, and that we are real america, and that we won’t subsidize the people who abuse and try to dominate us forever, and we will demand we be given the respect we have been denied by the rurals
fwordleproblems.bsky.social
I mean, it won't ONLY be city folk protesting. I'm sure some people will drive in from the suburbs or the exurbs or the countryside to be a part of this. But again, they will drive TO the city, because THAT'S WHERE EVERYBODY IS. We're not gonna go out to THEIR place! That'd be stupid!
