losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

Death to Intuit. Worst company whose products I'm forced to use, and I'm including Microslop
First CES panel. Intuit CMO Thomas Ranese is proud of his company's integration with OpenAI, which involves giving AI read/write access to tax data. Since prompt injection attacks are unavoidable, I asked him who will be liable when customer data is exposed: Intuit, OpenAI, etc?

He had no idea.

A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.

"If you want to know who took all of your money, it's the people with all of the money."

I keep thinking about this post and how it's one of the best, most succinct messages Democrats could use in 2026 campaigns.
If you want to know who took all of your money, it's the people with all of the money. Famously, we know that's people working in child care.

I use my 34 key columnar stagger keyboard I designed in KiCad to take notes on swordsmanship books from the early 1500s. I also collect woodwind instruments from before 1950.
u heard sharon, everyone post about their esoteric interests right fucking now. for the good of the community, we need to be hyperfixationmaxxing.
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts

Chatbots have a collective body count equal to Richard "The Night Stalker" Ramirez, and they're trying to put them in schools.
30 years ago they were like we have to ban song lyrics for the children but it’s full steam ahead for the here’s how to do drugs until you die machine
“ChatGPT started coaching Sam on how to take drugs, recover from them and plan further binges. It gave him specific doses of illegal substances, and in one chat, it wrote, ‘Hell yes—let’s go full trippy mode’”

Great way to implement municipal sidewalk shoveling without taxpayer expense. Especially since they just park their cars on them and mill around anyway.

Every member of Congress not calling for impeachment and removal is failing their own oaths of office.
Trump: “We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security, and the European Union needs us to have it. And they know it.”

It's this but then the exterminator sends you text messages asking for more money every 3 hours for the rest of your life
the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches

i feel like i see a lot of "mysterious new account makes big bet on insider information" news stories and not enough people-being-arrested-for-that news stories
“What appears to be a newly created account appeared to invest $30,000 Friday in Maduro's exit. After Maduro went into custody Saturday morning, that same investor netted $436,759.61.”
Someone made $400K by predicting Maduro's capture. Here's what happened
The winnings come as the rules governing prediction markets are still evolving.

The members who did the "don't follow illegal orders" video absolutely need to immediately do a "hey these were the illegal orders we were talking about and participating in them can expect to face consequences to the fullest extent of the law" video
Uniformed military are involved in this shambolic behavior and they all need to be held to account

A primary goal of the discussion now on dragging dem pols to do the right thing has to be on widespread accountability and where appropriate prosecutions of significant numbers of servicemembers
