Eh, I don't actually think so? They have a "beta" GenAI summarizer for articles, but nothing in the search bar itself.

I wonder if it's more about like... suppressing stuff, since the Hunger Games is about fascism.

I can search "Hunger Games" but I only get like... 89 results? It's so weird.

I can think of like... at least six self pubbed authors with excellent modern fantasy, including my own (if you don't mind me tooting my own horn).

Though in fairness, Amazon and book bloggers and the dirty ALGORITHM makes it very difficult to discover stuff outside of big names like Sanderson...

It’s maddening, that as a society we went with “Computer, make me an error-ridden story right now” instead of valuing the skill it takes for a writer to take what’s in their head and inspire your own unique thoughts and reactions to it. It’s worth every cent asked for it, and more.

And personally, as a writer, genAI is another insult in a career full of insults. Of people telling me they’ll get my book on Amazon because it’s cheaper. Academics telling me oh they’ll pivot to becoming writers just like that because they can write papers. Of pressure to always make numbers go up.

Among the reasons I absolutely loathe genAI is the fact it devalues and undermines skills like learning how to research, fact check, and communicate. It’s like answering a question with a print out of search engine results, taking it as truth because the computer said so.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

the worst trend in female character design for anthropomorphic characters in media has to be the absolute refusal to give women snouts.

gacha games and fortnite are especially egregious with this. come on. just a bit of a snout. it's not hard, people. give the wolf girl a snout. and DON'T squish it
