🚨🚨 It is rare that the rulings of @eucourtofjustice.bsky.social make headlines but the judgment yesterday on the recognition of #samesex marriage is a rare exception to this. Very welcome ruling from the CJEU: 🧵

Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

For my course on Conflict and Representation in the EU, I made an interactive Shiny app that plots CHES party positions, for all countries, years (1999-2024) and (most) dimensions in the dataset. Enjoy!

Obrigada pela dica!

Really interesting thread on how social media has become the main channel for communicating science around the world.
Published today: One of the biggest #science #communication studies to date. We asked 71,922 people in 68 countries how they #engage with information about #science and combined the data with several country-level factors: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/... #OpenAccess

All this and more on the link above, and many thanks to the wonderful @bonniefield.bsky.social for all her support in the publication process. 5/5

Voting expectations were confirmed: a lower turnout compared to the leg election, and a lower combined vote share for the larger parties. However, this difference in vote share was exclusively driven by Chega, which lost 8.3 per cent points with EU attitudes indeed played a role in this outcome. 4/5

Yet, we found no evidence that the news coverage of the 2024 EP election became more ‘European’. Despite not having a single MEP, Chega and its leader, André Ventura, received more media attention than other parties represented in the EP. 3/5

In PT, this election was special for two reasons: held just three months after the legislative elections, and with extreme right Chega as the third main party with 50 seats in national parliament we expected an increase of the salience of EU-related issues due to less elite consensus on Europe. 2/5

Two truths about Dutch politics a few days ahead of elections

1. 5 parties poll bw. 10 and 20%: green-left, left lib, right lib, Chr dem, far right. The entire spectrum.

2. Far right and far right-leaning parties (notably the right libs) have close to 50%. Crazy, esp. if you keep point 1 in mind.
