It's genuinely refreshing to see a judge not pretend that this administration is normal or treat it in good faith.
Ya'll the footnotes. I have never seen anything like this.

It is beneath the dignity of a liberal republic to have to debase itself before a gang of criminals who spit on its values. We wouldn't tolerate a foreign occupation of our territory, so why should we tolerate one from these people? They have already seceded in spirit; they aren't 'us' anymore.

The fact of the matter is that if far right militia thugs actually have a veto on perfectly reasonable policy, then you aren't a fully functioning state. And the response to such a state of affairs is not to placate them, but to build the ability to destroy them and restore the rule of law.
there's a through-line in my mind (probably pigeon superstition tho) from the Malheur fiasco to this, where it seems like the Dems really do believe there's enough agitated right-wingers ready to start shooting that they need to walk on eggshells to avoid a civil war

To make this site more accessible to artists I think Bluesky should implement a "view count" feature that will display a completely made up number like Twitter did. This will keep them on this site

One of many reasons that the whole "Dems would be considered right-wing in Europe" thing is absurd. The protections of the Fourteenth Amendment, particularly the idea of birthright citizenship, would not be endorsed on the *actual left* of many EU member states. Never mind the centre or right.

No one admits having supported the Iraq War nowadays, but at the time it was actually pretty popular, and the guy who did it got re-elected the next year!

Even in 2006 when public opinion soured on it enough for Dems to make huge gains, it was way more popular than invading Venezuela would be.
someone was claiming the iraq war was this unpopular. that is simply false. the iraq war was polling from 47-60 percent. that is a big difference from 11 percent! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_...

trump is genuinely an aberration. one could not have predicted him winning from the perspective of 2014. it took an incredible chain of contingencies to happen. it almost did not.

there is a reason that Trump is striking out in front of his own district court judges and that the Heritage Foundation is imploding. it's because this isn't true. people have been saying this for years. they were right for Gettier case reasons.

He’s right and the Biden admin was 100% right at the time to say this and the countless libs and lefties who sought refuge on here and do resistance posting now who at the time pathetically tut tutted the administration over this is responsible for the climate that led to RFK Jr’s rise and Trump 2.0

Lmfao 58% in an UNCONTESTED RACE?!!? OMG!!! The GOP is so cooked lol
Polls closed in SC at 7 PM ET. Results here: www.enr-scvotes.org/SC/125770/we...

Still *super* early, but in the uncontested #SD21 (around Trump+50), write-ins are currently getting 42% of the vote against Republican Lee Bright.

While we welcome this ruling, we also are clear-eyed that the Trump Administration’s pursuit for unchecked power is continuing across the country.

Illinois will remain vigilant, defend the rights of our people, and stand up to further abuses of authority by Donald Trump and his cronies.

I am glad the Supreme Court has ruled that Donald Trump did not have the authority to deploy the federalized guard in Illinois.

Take a look at this through the lens of SCOTUS acting out of instincts of self preservation. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have the pedal to the metal in terms of reforming the court, but it’s notable that they are not sticking their necks all the way out in a high profile case.

Animals are smart and humans are, despite everything, *incredibly* prosocial. More than anything, that's what's allowed us to dominate Earth. We are hard-wired to help each other. That's why the arguments against empathy are so bizarre. They're not just wrong, they're fundamentally anti-human.
