Star Trek being an authoritarian military operation was a poor choice from Gene Roddenberry's time in the Army Air Corps, and portraying goofy college kids is a step towards rank being utter bullshit that I approve of.

This is the best future proofing advice I have for any kids off to college. I Can Do My Interesting Thing Plus Speak Computer Nerd opens enough doors to lead somewhere. It got me and my wife employed.
Major in something you actually like and are interested in, minor in whichever of stats, Econ, or some kind computer touching is easiest for you.
I think a lot of "learn to code" people thought high salaries for programmers were a permanent feature of the world rather than the result of unusual circumstances around supply and demand in the labor market. Over last 20 years, CS went from a niche college major to the most popular major in the US

Dude. Yes. Alito and Thomas are of course the standout examples, but all of the Republican justices have tells in their writing and their questioning indicating that they are, to varying degrees, marinating their brains in dumb bitch juice
My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.
The part that I can't figure out is what John Roberts thinks he is doing. He used to seem to be a judge who was very attentive to appearances, I think on a theory that you can't draw too much attention to yourself without undermining your ability to continue to shape the law.

All of Hollywood is run by a series of billionaire children standing on each other's shoulders in trench coats, and that's not good for culture, my guys.
BREAKING: Netflix wins the Warner Bros. Discovery bidding war with an $83 billion offer, setting up a merger between the streaming giant and the legacy Hollywood studio.
Netflix to buy Warner Bros. and HBO Max
If approved by Trump administration regulators, the deal would lead to a new entertainment and technology behemoth.

Star Trek endures because its core got this right. We're clever, working hard, and trying to be better, and that means something.
“That the human race is improving; that we have things to be proud of as humans. No, ancient astronauts did not build the pyramids — human beings built them, because they’re clever and they work hard. And Star Trek is about those things.”

I have drawn a line in the sand and refuse to play any AAA games that don't run on Steam Deck. Partially because I can't be asked to buy a better rig than that these days, partially because the juice ain't worth the squeeze.
Since genAI has completely fucked the market for home computers, I guarantee there'll be an article complaining that people are playing older and less resource-intensive games and how this is killing the AAA gaming industry

Next: EMTALA results in making hospitals unprofitable, when will we allow for healthier competition in the healthcare industry?

Public services shouldn't be discussed in profit and loss, but if we're going there you might as well finish your thought.

For the record, my ideal Star Trek would be a reimagining of the series with a flat org chart and a reckoning with how much space future loves to lick boot.
Not my preferred Trek, but I am a bitter thirty-something with convoluted opinions about my favorite series. It's going to be fine, and a new generation will fall in love with it.

You can't create by listening to the fans, they don't know what they want and that's how you end up creatively lost.
God, I’m really upset how much hate I know Starfleet Academy is going to get. It’s Star Trek made for the CW-style crowd, which is PERFECTLY FINE. But because it’s not intended as mass audience aimed mainly at boomer dudes, it’s gonna face so much vitriol. Especially those kid actors. Angers me.
