The issue isn’t cost. It’s that the entire infrastructure in this country has been put into cars. Parking lots everywhere and bus stations nowhere. Light rail that comes every half an hour and isn’t synchronized so it takes forever if you have to switch lines.

Also the stereotype of the holiday turkey- whole bird, roasted in the oven all at once, biggest you can find, cavity full of stuffing- is guaranteed to turn out poorly.
most people just aren’t going to magically know how to juggle all those dishes just because it’s a holiday. there’s no shame in doing a couple of things really well

I think this is unfair to turkey. turkey is good but hard to cook well because it is so damn big. turkey *parts* are great but lack the esthetic appeal of a centerpiece bird.
it is tired to the point of cliche to say if turkey was good, people would make it more than once a year. but it is understated that at least one American explodes every Thanksgiving in a brave attempt to make the main dish more palatable

I'm a big believer that as social creatures humans create meaning through connection and love suffuses the best versions of that. I don't even think that's woo (looking at the Interstellar haters here). Where that can go into probably harmless but still woo territory is when we lose track of that

i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff
