Season 4 of THE WHITE LOTUS
Spotted a 60-something man on the beach reading Olivia Nuzzi’s “American Canto.” His wife is nearby. She has Mar-a-Lago face and is wearing a trucker hat that says “Sun. Yoga. Champagne.” She’s been watching a live cam feed of her front door on a comically large tablet for the last 20 minutes.

rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

I was not a young person when I realized that "Ice Capades" is a play on words.

I had spent many decades simply thinking "They're capades! On ice!"
My wife skated with the Ice Capades, who had a certain number in the cast, and I know that each dressing room had a goodly number of persons, with no more elbow room than was necessary. And the most recent hire was closest to the door.

I am probably the only human who loved how 140 characters forced a lean, haiku like style to making a post or argument. Our limitations are a blessing, in many ways. They’re part of the art.
Possibly controversial take (I'm on a roll today), but… I don't want Bluesky to have support for 500-character posts. Mastodon threads have 500-char posts, and it is a noticeable difference and not necessarily in a good way. Just a bit too much to read in one comment…

I just rewatched it last night for the gazillionth time. It's as great as anything Scorsese has done (not counting Goodfellas). And it's this movie, not Batman, that has Nicholson playing The Joker better than anyone ever has or ever will. (Apologize for packing so many hot takes into one post.)
imo people are too hesitant to embrace The Departed, despite the fact that it’s *fucking incredible*
Rewatched The Departed, first time in years. Thought it was Scorsese doing Scorsese the first time, and it *kind* of is. But it's brilliantly crafted & fits perfectly into his crime oeuvre (cops as Boston's largest gang) and his anthropological epics about cities (GoNY, BotD, Age of Innocence).

Back when Google was useful you could set specific size parameters in an image search, and the biggest regret of my life is losing track of the largest resolution image online of Dana Carvey: this headshot. It was like 250 MB and I planned to frame posters of it and send them to everyone I know.

Another way that Zohran shows the way forward is he has spent zero time lingering on smears. Part of what killed Corbyn, for example, is that he has to publicly address every fake scandal and it drove long media cycles. The left needs to move past apologizing and constantly justifying itself.
Shooting our videos is a little bit different now.
