Here's what Democrats should do - as a minimum - to help fix the media ecosystem:

Start a newspaper in every single congressional district - yes, all 435 of them - called "The <name of geographic area> Democrat." It can literally be the district number if there's nothing better to hand. (1/7)
There is an opening for a pro-immigration party in this country.

Democrats just have to seize it.
This is extremely important

I still remember the night they banned smoking inside NYC bars and restaurants. So many articles claiming it would be the end of NYC nightlife.

It was 2003.

Things can change. Faster than you might think.
I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

I'm impressed by the statements from the Palestinian Action Group.

Anti-semitism & anti-islamism, in word & in deed are both toxic to our society & our democracy.

Contrast the soothing word of the PAG with those of the IZraeli PM & his fangirl Lillian Segal.

They should both be censured!

I fully support this statement released by the Palestine Action Group, in response to the murder of innocent Jewish people celebrating Hanukkah at Bondi Beach on Sunday. I am also deeply disturbed by the comments made by the Antisemitism Envoy Jillian Segal. #auspol #BondiBeachShooting

When we talk about people who are unable to drive safely, most of the time we're thinking about children, the blind, the elderly, etc.

But that category *definitely* includes people who have basically no control over their temper. Paul Doyle should not have been given a driver's license.
If you regularly cycle on British roads you'll have come across aggressive, dangerous drivers like Paul Doyle who use their motor vehicles as weapons, the roads are full of them. Their behaviour is completely normalised until the day they run over 100 people

"Dispatchable solar energy" is the death knell for most legacy generation technologies, and probably will kill off *all* competition between the tropics.
This is incredible (good news too): “After a 40% fall in 2024 in battery equipment costs, it’s clear we’re on track for another major fall in 2025…The economics for batteries are unrecognizable, & the industry is only just getting to grips with this new paradigm”
www.pv-magazine.com/2025/12/12/b...
Batteries now cheap enough to make dispatchable solar economically feasible
Energy think tank Ember says utility-scale battery costs have fallen to $65/MWh outside China and the United States, enabling solar power to be delivered when needed.

"ICE and CBP must be abolished" is the only reasonable position. We can debate the specifics of new agencies for immigration functions, but these agencies are simply too infected with a culture of impunity, racism, and fascism to continue. They're gangs with badges.
Armed ICE agents trapped US citizens in a restaurant and demanded their papers. Federal agents walked into East African restaurants in Cedar-Riverside, MN. They closed and blocked the doors. Then they demanded to see everyone’s papers. Every person present was a US citizen.

I've been saying since before MAGA, that the Republican party will do one of two things in my lifetime:

1) achieve a fascist state or

2) disappear for trying to achieve a fascist state

I think we're at that precipice.

And "America first" as Nazi adjacent isn't new. Dr. Seuss saw it:

There are many things which have contributed to the debasement of our Republic, but the fact so many of our elites have conflated "cynicism" with "savviness" is a biggie.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

One of the cool things about transit is that, when you build it, it doesn't generate traffic that slows *everyone* down - as opposed to roads and highways which do.

And, honestly, that's only the tip of the iceberg of the damage that roads do.
The Ontario government commissioned a study that found transit infrastructure investments are very very good for the economy and highways and roads actually hurt GDP. www.ontario.ca/page/economi...

It really is amazing how quickly drivers jump to ableism whenever any of the negative externalities of cars are brought up, particularly because cars are one of the most ableist and classist modes of transit. *Far* more people are able to safely ride bicycles than are able to safely drive cars.
“You are being ableist by making me obey the speed limit” this is the greatest website in the world.
I care about the harm to my sanity and schedule for being forced to go artificially slow

This is what happens when we treat driving as a right rather than a privilege. The simple fact is that there are a large number of people who *SHOULD NEVER DRIVE A CAR* because they cannot do so safely, and we need to accept that and rebuild cities so they can get around without endangering others.
“Drunk and drugged driving is now so common in car-centric California that drivers routinely rack up four, five, six DUIs. One woman in Fresno just got her 16th.”
California has some of the weakest DUI laws in the nation. Here, DUI-related deaths have been rising more than twice as fast as the rest of the country.

But this fall, a state bill to strengthen DUI penalties was gutted at the last minute. calmatters.org/investigatio...

Deliverism was always a nice fantasy: "if we do good things for the voters, voters will reward us forever!" which just isn't how it works, and that's actually good!

You *want* the good things you've done for voters to become normal, uncontroversial, and just past of life - that's how they persist.

This seems logical but Dems solved* the whole problem of old-age health care costs in the mid-1960s and then they lost five of the next six presidential elections because by 1968 it was a solved problem and no one cared about it.

Modem American Conservatism is, fundamentally, an ideology without love.
ultimately, no one even grieved Charlie Kirk. he was just another thing for the worst people on earth to get outraged over. and when the outrage of real events wasn't enough, they invented new ones.

No see if Dems had held out just a *little* longer Republicans would have abolished the filibuster & then used their newly minted powers to pass the bill that just failed, that among other awful things, would have banned trans-people from existing. Obviously a better outcome.
Yes, a much better outcome would have been to keep the government shut down indefinitely while planes fell out of the sky and the economy began to crash, that certainly is a simply scenario that it would be easy to manage

The full requirements will end tourism in the United States.
