My favorite tyrant joke: a man comes every day and peers at the front page of the newspaper without buying it.

The newspaper vendor says, "what are you looking for?"
"An obituary."
"Obituaries aren't on the front page."
"This one will be."

very grimly ironic that our government run by podcasters sucks at true crime
Gotta say it's mindblowing to me that the Brown shooter is still at large and they don't even seem to have identified who they're looking for.

they keep emphasizing that these are on "known narcotrafficking routes" and like, those are just route-routes. there are not special ocean highways for drugs.
I'm not sure if people realize the murder strikes are taking place across a large region. It's quite staggering.

Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

lol Dr. Joy Buolamwini said something about #AI that really stuck out to me yesterday:

Businesses use AI for jobs they don't understand, which means the AI hype is being somewhat driven by ignorance. Bruh.

One of the biggest moments of my career:
USCIS canceled my client’s naturalization oath ceremony. We filed a lawsuit, went to trial, and the judge swore him in right there in the courtroom!

this is similar to my idea to reduce noise pollution: every car horn can be honked exactly three times. on the third honk it makes the airbag go off
so every time speed governors get mentioned people complain about how it's unsafe as there are times you have to speed to be safe so here's a fun idea: instead of a governor, a device that emits an ear-splitting tone in the cabin when you exceed the speed limit that gets louder the more you speed
This should be a slam dunk solution. We have the technology to make it much harder for people to drive at excessive speeds but we do not do it, because far too many think that is some infringement on their freedom.

this is how you make people become the joker!!!!!!!!
When 97% is 'no clear consensus', and 52% is 'the will of the people', it's time to face facts that Governments do what Governments want to do regardless of what their people actually want.

As far as I’m concerned, Bluesky is like an online art museum, public park, potluck, sorta thing.

Sure, I’ll occasionally gripe about politics, same as I would with likeminded friends, but if someone showed up to my art gallery wanting to debate, I’d ask them to leave. I’m just not here for that.
"Bluesky is an echo chamber."
"Bluesky doesn't have enough reach"
"Liberals must return to X to challenge the far right"

I'm not a tech bro or a journalist. Your priorities are not my priorities. Stop telling me I need to do anything other than chat about comics & telly with people who seem nice.

Elon Musk is now worth $600 billion.

Someone working at the federal minimum wage would have to work 9.45 million years to make that much money.

We are all so much closer to being homeless than being a billionaire.

Tax the rich.

Read this thread.

It's exactly right. But also note on the internet related stories—the banning of TikTok and the attack on Sec 230—Democrats happily helped MAGA accomplish their goals and people have cheered it on.

Democrats trying to destroy 230 are not helping you. They're helping Trump.
There’s a specific mechanism in authoritarian movements that we’re seeing play out in real-time across American media and tech. It’s a simple rule: "If we cannot co-opt it, we must destroy it."

It is the logic of "scorched earth." It's the logic of the Nero Decree and it's happening right now. 🧵

The first half of the Chainsaw Man movie has been lovely and sweet, and it's going to get really dark and violent soon, isn't it?

They really did a good job capturing the little movements and actions between Denji and Reze.

Even if you *could* "fix" the nazi platform — WHY WOULD YOU BUILD ECONOMIC VALUE FOR A WHITE SUPREMACIST. I swear people are goddamn fools. "Tell your progressive friends to go buy a Tesla so that other Tesla drivers might like us better?" Money is power. Don't give Musk power. Read a goddamn book.
You can’t “fix” X, The Everything App by going back and posting there because the owner has this thumb on the scale of the algorithm to promote the worst ideas and people. It’s not a viable solution, you have to let it go.

Forced Labor Continues in Colorado, Years After Vote to End Prison Slavery
Coloradans voted in 2018 to amend their state constitution to ban forced labor in prison. Years later, incarcerated people are still being punished for refusing work assignments.
