Trying not to think too hard about the fact I just comfortably took down the outdoor Christmas decorations wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

"agents" have uniforms. This is, at best, a gang.
50 ICE agents swarming a public library to arrest one person.

This isn’t policing — it’s authoritarian spectacle.
Armed intimidation, fear as policy, and taxpayer money burned to terrorize communities.

This is fascism in plain sight. #TrumpWatch #Resist

The 2010 Doctor Who Christmas episode isn't just one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever, it might well be the greatest riff on A Christmas Carol ever written. A masterpiece from start to finish.

I look forward to disliking the term "slowductivity" almost as much as I disliked "quiet quitting".
The most annoying thing about genAI is that eventually the genAI proponents are going to get to the end of the novelty of it, realize its limitations, and then claim to be the innovators of doing things the long way without genAI. Call it "slow productivity" or something.

Was listening to Free With Ads and they mentioned these Kraft ads. These are an amazing slice of our (kinda awful) culinary life in the US in the 80s:

I've had this problem with English. Also wildly sexist theories.
As soon as barbers find out I speak Russian, they immediately unload the most racist conspiracy theories imaginable
I think it's pretty widely acknowledged that barbers are generally more prone to sharing conspiracy theories than most – in person, at least – but the guy who cut my hair today surprised me when he informed me that "Girls Scout cookies are literally the worst things you can eat, health-wise."

Everyone is selling innovation and none of it works. What if I started an agency that sold denovation. Build you a last-gen project that actually fucking works.

Car dependency is expensive, yes, but living in a walkable/bikeable area well served by public transit is *also* really expensive. In order to free people from the financial stranglehold of car dependency, we need to make the alternative more affordable.

The entire US economy is propped up by a product so toxic and insidious that everyone has to go on a weekly scavenger hunt just to remove it from products they're already using.
heads up, gmail has a new setting automatically on that allows their a*i to be trained on your emails so make sure to turn off the 'Smart Feature' checkbox in your settings

it's very literally impossible to have any idea what true American preferences are in this arena because high quality urban apartments suitable for family living with connected transport in safe areas are simply unavailable to the vast, vast majority of the population
Right, this is true, but the OVERWHELMING evidence of the past 100 years of American life is that vastly more people want space and a car than a smaller unit and a car-free lifestyle. This is mostly why the suburban share of US population has grown relentlessly for the entire 20th and 21st century
Some people put a premium on space in my experience, others put a premium on not having to have a car and not being isolated out in the suburbs

We need some "reverse Halllmark" movies where a small town lady finds love and the magic of Christmas in the big city.
We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.
