there is a kind of insane hyperreality of RTS storytelling that deeply appeals to me wherein minor personal slights or disagreements leads, inevitably, to building a small base, raising an army, and throwing said army at their foes
the Golden Age of RTS is replete with soap opera drama and melodramatic casts (Starcraft's Kerrigan and Mengsk et al, Kane in C&C, Fleet Command and Mothership and the Bentusi in Homeworld, WARCRAFT 3) and the more people try to recapture the golden age of starcraft without that, the worse it fails
