Help needed with gender affirming care - we all know the NHS won't do it!

I can personally vouch for the people involved here - I work with them. If I could I'd fund the whole thing myself but sadly that lottery win hasn't turned up.

Good news everyone! Sweden’s Gävlebocken didn’t burn down this year. Instead it blew over in a storm.
Här blåser Gävlebocken omkull under stormen Johannes
Gävlebocken har mött ett nytt öde. I stormen Johannes framfart, med kraftiga vindar, blåste bocken omkull under lördagen. Många människor samlades runt bocken för att bevittna händelsen. – Jag tyckte ...

Again, do you notice how much of contemporary politics is horrible people behaving horrendously, while screaming in terror about people not wanting to hang around with them as a consequence.
"I worry that we are rapidly moving towards a society of self-absorbed and entitled individuals who have no time, affection or care for their parents." Letter in the Times from a 'relationship and family therapist' in response to Sarah Ditum's article attacking kids who have cut off abusive parents

Explaining my gender to my 63 year old Polish mother in law:

Gender is a religion. Male, female, it's all doctrine. Most people grow up so steeped in it they don't even realise they're following it, like Polish people who don't go to church but are still catholic by behaviour

Her: I'm following

Odd that Gender is a biological, immutable certainty AND something you can lose if you own the wrong dog.
Threads is just wild because what the fuck

I get on really well with my mother in law. Such a balm when my own family are pros at the passive aggressive and the self absorbed games
Quote this with something you're grateful for from 2025

(NOT an accomplishment just something good in your life)

🖤 My small group of friends
🖤 My dog
🖤 My job
🖤 My health most of the time
🖤 My openness to trying new things
🖤 The amazing city I live in

I was at a bar on a business trip. A drunk businessman at another table told the waitress, "Wow! I'd love to get into your pants." Without blinking an eye, she said, "No thanks. I already have one asshole in there."
What's an insult you'll never forget?

No literary agent who is going to get you a deal is going to charge you upfront. They make a percentage. That is how it works.

If someone says otherwise or tries to "upsell" you, they are scammers.
Ok, since this has come up four times in the last three days:

REPUTABLE LITERARY AGENTS WILL NOT CHARGE YOU MONEY.

IF A LITERARY AGENT WANTS TO CHARGE YOU FOR AN "EXPEDITED ACCESS PACKAGE" THIS IS A SCAM.

My big uneducated opinion that I'm 100% certain I'm right on is that without autism, we wouldn't have dogs.

Who else is consistent and stubborn enough to train, breed, and socialise with wolves until we end up with something the whole society can enjoy?

The fact the Menswear Guy is actively dunking on the Bsky user base now instead of just cross-posting the threads where he does that to Twitter users should terrify all of us.
true. that's bc you've allowed your sense of style to be narrowly defined by fashion brands, instead of thinking about it in terms of cultural history. over the course of the 20th century, many groups have dressed well, even if they didn't conform to fashion trends or bourgeois respectability

My mother has been collecting stamps for sixty years. She's got a penny black in there, single-issue Isle of Man stamps, rare misprints, the works

Her collection isn't insured, because it's never been valued

She doesn't know how to use Excel

Guess who will be making their mother a spreadsheet

I crimped every pierogi in the bowl. Only 1 split during boiling. We're freezing them in batches of 10 once cooled so instead of ordering takeaway we'll have dumplings for days. These are sauerkraut and mushroom.

This is the third full bowl. The previous two are Russian and already in the freezer

My fate: death by pierogi. My mother in law will make sure of it.

It will be a good death.

Having the last of Saturday's shepherds pie for lunch today. Microwaving lamb in an office isn't a crime, right? It was this or spicy fish soup which would get me in trouble for sure.

You know how people say 'don't grocery shop hungry' - poor advice imo. Better advice? Don't cook hungry. I skipped lunch and then tried to make shepherds pie for three people. I think I cooked about to pop a dozen or so competitive eaters.

My grandfather was a Quaker. I never met him, but according to my mother he was a pacifist and always furious, 100% burning fuel at all times. He also never raised his voice, never hit, never acted in rage. Just, to paraphrase Sir Terry Pratchett, dammed it all up until he could use it to power him.
British Quakers are refusing room bookings from terfs as policy.
