Sometimes I think the reason indie games aren't touching AI is just cus when you're tiny, you actually Do have to understand all the specializations, and so you know how bullshit Gen AI's attempts at all of it look

The further you are from the work, the less you can understand what constitutes Good

They're going to make a shitload of money, the software will become shit very quickly. People will hate it, complain, and it won't matter because ownership got their payout.

Software like Discord only exists to get that payout in the first place.
Discord filed confidentially for an initial public offering, according to people familiar with the matter, adding to a rapidly growing pipeline of venture capital-backed tech listings. bloom.bg/4plpBlz

Researchers had people do a memory task, take a 10-min break (rest, Twitter, YouTube, or TikTok), then resume.

Result? Only TikTok wrecked their ability to remember planned intentions. After scrolling, accuracy dropped from ~80% to basically coin-flip levels. Twitter & YouTube? No effect.
Short-Form Videos Degrade Our Capacity to Retain Intentions: Effect of Context Switching On Prospective Memory
Social media platforms use short, highly engaging videos to catch users' attention. While the short-form video feeds popularized by TikTok are rapidly spreading to other platforms, we do not yet under...

Sometimes I think people outside narrative sincerely believe that placeholder text reads like “[PLACEHOLDER] I am reloading.” because the writers don’t have time to write anything else, and not because it needs to be highly noticeable amongst hundreds of lines of finished dialogue.

I wrote a thing about how frustrating this line of thought is, cuz it gets trotted out every few years, and a whole bunch of interesting people disagree thoughtfully and articulately, and none of those disagreements are acknowledged when it's trotted out again

Shit shit shit.

Difficult realization that we're financially at our limit. I need work yesterday to support my wife and I. At this point, anything goes. Full time, part time, you pay and I code for you.

I'm seeing variants of "ah but today's gamers just don't have attention spans so we sort of have to-" rolled out earnestly so

No. You can let those players fail. The AAA conception of handholding is silly. There's huge genres that don't do it.

You just have a bad manager making you do dumb things.

Getting quite sick of seeing quote-dunks on my timeline. Y'all, if I wanted to hear what the dickheads were saying on Twitter, I wouldn't have moved here. I'm not going to follow people who insist on helping platform the worst people around. Adding snark doesn't fix anything!

This feels like a very @swiftonsecurity story but I'm going to tell it.

Chat bots (not just LLM driven) are surprisingly old. In the mid 90s, a mark up language for string-driven bots called AIML was released. A small community of early hackers and devs got really into it. I was part as a teen.
