All those farm fields with pro-Brexit banners and the NFU's fucking cowardly neutrality on the Brexit referendum. Remember those things? If you're a farmer and voted remain, and you have social media posts showing that support, let us all know how to buy direct from you.

It should be seen as a safety version of Dieselgate, with car manufacturers responsible for replacements of touch screens, but this is beyond our current thinking that the motoring lobby does not even have to block the idea.
I wrote this piece back in May. Good to see it being shared widely again. Screens were fitted to make cars look techy when, in fact, their main benefit was to auto makers because they were far far cheaper than physical switchgear.
Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.

Minister accused of using only “meaningless TV appeals” as road deaths reach decade high
Government ministers responsible for road safety have been accused of failing to act on rising road deaths and of launching only "meaningless televised appeals to people to drive carefully" -- it comes as 189 people have been killed on Irish roads so far in 2025. Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien and Minister for State with responsibility for road safety Seán Canney have been accused of inaction by former transport minister Shane Ross.

“Will someone think of the Nazis?”
Just thinking... we give so much attention (as we should!) to the victims of state violence, ie, people sent to CECOT.

But, we give little consideration to the psychic violence suffered by those tasked with carrying out the physical violence.

Yes, they "chose" those jobs. But...

My Uber Eats order was delivered by a very aggressive bicyclist I’ve seen around the city the past two years.

His name is Joe.

thread. OP doesn't say it, but AI coding is this x100 and there's gonna be a roaring business in cleaning up the mess ... once the surviving companies come to their senses
A programmer would slap together a mock version of what was asked for, and damned if 3 years later that shitty mock version hasn't become the actual production code, now all kludged up with shit it was never meant to have in it.

Placeholder code turned permanent.

Why are the police so bad at this? Did they really need to park on the pavement? It's a wide road so they could have left it on the double yellows, if it was an emergency; and if it wasn't an emergency they should have parked on one of the side roads.
BTW this is <500m from the Police Station!

Aye. Consider an alternative act:

"Ms McCarty-Wroten's lawyer said that when she fired her bump-stock fitted AR-15 in the air while standing in the middle of a huge crowd, she had no intention to kill. He went on to say that hers was a negligent act, but surely not an intentional or reckless act."
This kind of reasoning drives me nuts. No, the driver did not set out to kill anyone with her car that night, but she did do something known to be incredibly dangerous with consequences anyone could have expected. Obviously she didn't intend to harm another person. But she also didn't intend not to.
