it is still pretty clear at this point that Israel is actively trying to kill every living person in Gaza.
In today’s depraved beyond belief news, Israel is banning MSF (Doctors Without Borders) from Gaza.

I don't think Biden ending the drone war or pulling out of Afghanistan or negotiating an end to the war in Yemen netted Democrats as single solitary vote in 2022 or 2024.

It’s pretty crazy that Cindy McCain got appointed to the World Food Program and has since done genuine advocacy for Palestinians in Gaza while her useless daughter is always saying shit like “if my father were alive today he would say the 14 words.”
Most of America has absolutely 0 idea about any of this

“it was rude and unfair of Obama to run an actual campaign, so we had to respond by nominating the worst person alive” is truly one of the all time post genres

what does it look like inside these people’s heads
if people on the other site think Obama was mean, i don't think they're ready for Reconstruction 2

Even kings who thought they were deities or chosen by deities didn’t behave like this.
Democracies cannot function like this. The President is a public servant of the people, not a diety who doles out government services based on perceived personal slights.
In his veto letter, President Trump blamed the Miccosukee Tribe for having “actively sought to obstruct reasonable immigration policies that the American people decisively voted for when I was elected.”

the default tone of right-wing writing on Mamdani at the moment is sweatily pathetic
Polling suggests Israel is historically unpopular in the demographic corresponding with people likely to have small children, so I need someone smarter than me to explain how picking a fight with Ms. Rachel of all people makes any sense whatsoever. nypost.com/2025/12/26/o...

Coming round to this view myself. Even if the money raised from the billionaire wealth tax is negligible, you need to do it to get political buy-in for broadening the tax base and increasing the taxes everyone pays.
1. Taxing billionaires more by itself is not enough to raise the funds for a robust welfare state. You have to also tax upper middle and middle income people more.

2. To have any chance of getting the political buy in to do point 1, you have to make a big show of massively taxing billionaires.

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

I have a lot of respect for the Knives Out movies just as an exercise in people making solid B+ level entertainment where everyone seems to be enjoying the experience without it needing it to win Oscar’s or make 3 billion dollars. It’s like going to a good steakhouse.

this is sort of the reason i dunk on Matt Y so much despite thinking that moderating on some electoral issues can benefit the party, primarily because *if* your entire thing is pure focus on WAR maximizing, you don't actually have a party
For all the people currently bitching about the Democrats (deservedly so, btw) will be apoplectic when/if they start acting like Starmer's Labour.

I don't think this *will* happen, but it's certainly a possibility.

if you wanted to write an extremely bleak "subtext is for cowards" short story about the current moment, try to actually get in the headspace of high level political figures around the trump regime
Mass abuse as politics idk how else to explain it
The most interesting thing about Trump, contra Kat Rosenfeld, is that he shows no loyalty to anyone and keeps selling out everyone he steps on to get where he wants and whenever one of his stepping stones like MTG get the temerity to think they have a reciprocal relationship they're all surprised!

Swing voters were deaf to Trump's promises to remake America through radical xenophobia, but that does not mean he did not promise it. Voters elected Trump to make them rich. He told them he would do much more, & he is. If we pretend that didn't happen, we only doom ourselves.
Trump's attempting to transform the US from a country that welcomes immigrants into a radically xenophobic nation that demonizes immigrants of color, and even their US born children. But Trump didn't campaign on this destructive/reactionary remaking of America and most Americans don't support it. 1/
