Taxes are good, Cars are bad

at some point we're gonna have to have a real conversation about why we're still paying federal taxes to a regime that isn't using them to help anyone, but instead is using them to brutalize us

The ICE guys who were there but didn't shoot should be charged with felony murder. Especially the guy who reached into her car. If he doesn't do that, she's probably still alive because she wouldn't have felt the need to get the hell out of there so fast.

It was obviously premeditated murder because he pulled his gun out. If he wasn't planning on shooting someone, why did he pull his gun?

The other guys didn't have their guns out because there was no threat that required a gun. A woman was sitting in a car. Give her a ticket if she won't move.

For a literal decade the official CBP policy has been “don’t stand in front of or behind vehicles” because the decade before that their internally commissioned studies found that agents were putting themselves in front of vehicles so as to shoot the occupants

the fact that this is Yglesias’ only post about ICE murdering an American really just goes to show how his excessively poll-tested popularist philosophy completely fails when faced with a rapidly shifting public narrative

it’s an entirely backwards-looking worldview

In America you drop your kid off at school, get your brains blown out on the ride home, then the Vice President drops everything for a week to call you a terrorist, to slander your family, to protect the circumstances that led to your death so they can do it again. It is government by Alex Jones.

Congress must address Kristi Noem's failed leadership, up to and including impeachment. But that alone is insufficient.

The entire chain of command who have enabled a culture of murder must face justice.

Yesterday Elon Musk retweeted "white solidarity is the only way to survive". In our numb overwhelmed media environment it barely made headlines that the world's richest man endorsed blood-curdling white nationalism. My brief writeup for @religiondispatches.org

Elon Musk Just Endorsed Blatant White Nationalism And the Silence is Deafening
On Thursday morning Elon Musk retweeted (with a ‘100%’ endorsement) a post declaring that: If white men become a minority, we will be slaughtered. Remember, if non-Whites openly hate White men while...

No matter how a dem president would like to use ICE, it’s not up to them. After Trump’s first term, they became a rogue agency for at least a little bit under Biden. There is no bringing the post-Trump II ICE meaningfully into a non-fascist American government.
If a Dem president wants to impound ICE’s funding, under that precedent, in 2029, he can go right ahead. It’s overfunded.

No Dem is going to use ICE like Trump does, and all of them voted against the extra funding.
I'm genuinely waiting for the good faith response as to why abolish ICE is not a plan. It's been around for 20 years. They just effectively abolished USAID which had been around 3 times as long.

I think this is both true and the problem with their social media strategy in general: their intended audience never sees their posts, and their actual audience finds them obnoxious, patronizing, or irrelevant.
If you are someone who comments on elected officials posts, these kinds of posts are not made for you. If you know who I am and have any opinion my content, then these posts aren’t made for you.

Won't repost the video, but I'd love to know how that footage got from the ICE agent's personal phone to the general public. The fact that it managed to get out tells you exactly how egregious that shooting was (the video itself is enough, but context still matters).

It's true. These guys all love the idea of being a tough operator, but they could go to Ukraine or any number of actual war zones right now and fight a righteous war, and they don't because then the other guys would have guns too.

Go do fucking paintball, nerds.
These are just the softest motherfuckers on the planet
Huge amount of aggression from ICE this morning. Just attacked protesters with pepper balls again. Absurd. There's barely two dozen protesters here.

The fact that we’re getting arrested when they assault us tells you everything you need to know. There is no law.
The case involved Ross punching out a man's window and tasing him while he attempted to drive away; the man shook him off his car, giving Ross injuries that required 33 stitches. The man called 911 to report that he'd been assaulted by ICE and was later convicted of assault on a federal officer.

This is quite literally Trump declaring himself a dictator and the Times is framing it like “Trump’s bold new redefinition of executive power.” This is anathema to the whole project of America and the republicans enabling it need their feet held to the fire and our media won’t do it.
This bizarre and dangerous claim violates literally every section of our Constitution, which was built by geniuses explicitly to limit individual power.

Those entrusted with enforcing our Constitution have a duty to every Conservative and Liberal American. A duty to act. Now.

Vice President JD Vance’s comments justifying the death of Renee Good are a moral stain on the collective witness of our Catholic faith.

His Catholicism seems to be little more than a political prop, a tool only for his career ambitions and desire for power.

These acts and utterances are impeachable. Put them in the articles the next Congress should be delivering on Day One.

It’s demoralizing that there’s been no formal objection to the regime’s daily High Crimes and Misdemeanors, in two senses: it both dispirits the public and corrupts public morals.
It's time to state clearly that if MAGA and Republicans can't condemn any part of this shooting, continue to blame the victim for it, and even hint that it's a just outcome that others "deserve," that's a crossing of the line that the rest of us won't ever be able to forget.
Rep. Randy Fine: "If you impede the actions of our law enforcement as they seek to repel foreign invaders from our country, you get what's coming to you. I do not feel bad for the woman that was involved."

Just look at that picture. Those are soldiers in an army, and their enemy is the United States. We are not going to get out of this without fighting them.
I said last summer the phalanxes of heavily armed, pot bellied thugs Trump is assembling to terrorize, kidnap and imprison Americans--documented and undocumented--using near limitless funds appropriated by the GOP in the "Beautiful Bill," is a clear and present danger to democracy. 1/
