i understand how galling it is for americans to be offended at foreigners threatened with US military force, but one problem is that if you live in a US city you are being openly threatened with US military occupation on a day to day basis and every organ of the US government delcares you an enemy

If you take all its benefits for granted, any petty reason is sufficient to blow it up. This is the first ruling government in the country's history to simply fear nothing. Perhaps the first great power in history to fear nothing.
It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

I am really really fucking sick of Americans pulling this “we are the root of Naziism and all evils in the world” schtick. Shockingly, genocides didn’t start in 1776.

the default, cringe pose of "I must support Tough Military Action because I am Tough" is both morally wrong and bad politics

One of most remarkable US presentations at UN Security Council I've ever seen.

- No reference to UN Charter legal justification
- Claims Panama as precedent (which the UN condemned)
- Energy reserves ⤵️ as justification is illegal
- Sharp contrast with US Ambassador Pickering presentation in 1989

"Maduro is a brutal authoritarian dictator," I wisely intone, as the corrupt demented paedophile US President violating Constitutional Law while operating a gestapo and concentration camps illegally arrests a foreign leader on charges which read like they were written on a paper placemat in crayon.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

So that's now Minneapolis, Auckland(NZ), and San Diego that have all stabilized their rents by just actually fucking building shit!
YIMBYism! it works!
Thanks to a series YIMBY reforms—and high-quality administration—in San Diego, the city has been in the midst of a building boom, even as construction has plummeted elsewhere. The result? Rents are down six months in a row. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/12/17/s...
San Diego rents have fallen for 6 months. Should you ask your landlord for a deal?
San Diego rents are down 0.3% year-over-year to an average $2,520 per month.

In defense of my discipline, we do not, in fact, all agree to that.

Indeed, the general view from a military perspective is that the Wehrmacht succeeded (to the degree it did) substantially despite Hitler. I'm not sure many serious historians of any field would label him a 'genius.'
