I came here to chew bubble gum and compliment people whose work I admire... and I'm all out of bubble gum.
Letterboxd cracks me up because you will see a review that says something like, "A staggering achievement that redefines cinema. 2 1/2 stars."

We are not at war with Venezuela, yet. The boats are civilian craft. The U.S. criminal code does not maintain a death penalty for drug smuggling. Due process is required before conviction or sentence.

All of the 80 people killed thus far are wanton murders slain under illegal orders. All of them.

you think you need to leave intelligent, thoughtful comments? lmao no

“loved it!” is all you need to say. blurt that out on Steam, YouTube, Amazon for whatever game, book, or video caught your fancy

The algorithm is all consuming but you can help cool people by just commenting “👍🏼”’ so do it
PRO TIP

If you have YouTubers you like and follow and watch their videos a lot

leave innane/positive comments on their videos. The algo is all fucked up for YT creators and a lot of videos get sent to the void for whatever reason.

I hate doing it, but I've been trying to do it.

As part of #16DaysOfActivism it’s my job as a man to remind all men that male violence against women is a men’s issue

To say it’s a women’s issue is to blame women for our violence as men

We collectively are the root cause and the root solution to ending it.

Let’s get to work

Keep this in your back pocket for the upcoming Christmas break/NYE my creative friends 🙃
fyi a fun way to answer this is by going “well let me put it this way, what do YOU do?”

and they’ll be like “I’m a dentist”

then you smile and rock back on your heels and go “oh, done any root canals I might have heard of?”
After someone asks what I do and I say I'm an author: "Have I heard of you?"

How am I supposed to POLITELY respond to that?

I'm supposed to attend a non-writer dinner event in a couple weeks & I'm already having anxiety because of these kinds of scenarios.

I've seen deals you people wouldn't believe. Delivery trucks on fire off the shoulder of Best Buy. I watched C-notes glitter in the dark near the Target Superstore. All those bargains will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to shop.
Cyber Monday is here and deals are going fast! These deals are diaphanous. They are receding even as we speak, becoming mere memories of deals, prices longed for but lost, hints at what could have been had for less. A golden slant of sun through window falls on an empty countertop. Act now.

I really appreciate that @pbsnews.org ended the interview with this graphic.

It captures, in the simplest and starkest terms, the brutal arithmetic driving this country's homelessness catastrophe.

They want to rehabilitate sex creeps and criminals because of some combination of the following: a) they've got something in their own past they don't want to have bring them down, b) they want the creep prerogatives that used to come with the gig, c) they're just plain sexist motherfuckers
I'm flummoxed by the underground movement to rehab cancelled figures. There's a rumor that a studio head is planning to begin bringing cancelled people back. It's bananas. The industry has contracted, leaving writers, directors and actors scrambling for work and we're making space for sex criminals?

As a producer I can not fathom for a second why you would want to put members of your cast and crew in the line of fire of someone with a past of sexual assault or pestery. Those people are your responsibility.

Choosing to forgive is one thing; putting people at risk is just fucking reckless.

The 3 Rs are the big ones: rate, review, recommend. Even short reviews help, wherever you bought the book or any online store. Some will let you review without a purchase. If a store or library doesn't have the book you wamt request it

Everything else is a more systemic change

So I’ve seen some backlash against “write your spec” on this device lately. And as a big proprietor of the movement (I mean — it’s my hashtag) I thought I would share a story with you all.

And I promise you it’s not going where you think it’s going.

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

Recently rewatched John Carpenter’s THE THING, which I haven’t seen in probably 25 years despite it being one of my favorite horror movies of all time. I had completely forgotten about the opening sequence, but now I can’t stop thinking about it. (1/3)
John Carpenter's THE THING (1982) screens in 35mm Saturday, December 27th, at midnight! Tickets: buff.ly/0U9Jygz

Hilarious! It's usually the opposite for me.

Me: *meets actor I just saw in a movie*
Me: "Didn't we go to college together?"

🤦‍♀️
There was an actor in the new RUNNING MAN who looked familiar to me so afterwards I looked up where I knew him from and we went to college together.

Amazing!!!

Anyone who has made a truly independent film knows how hard you have to fight for oxygen in the crowded market. This is a wonderful milestone and it wouldn’t be possible w/o the amazing talent behind this film, our distributor Gravitas Ventures and your grassroots support! Thank you!!

Thinking about the number of people who told Younger Me to "stop talking about movies," that my pop culture knowledge was useless, that my creative writing degree was going to be useless... So, half love of storytelling, half spite I guess? 😆
