Consistent regular reminder that empathy for your fellow human being is a huge act of resistance. Care about people beyond just your friends and family. Care about strangers you've never met. Show them daily kindness. Remind everyone that suspicion and hosility should not be the baseline.

It really is amazing that the president has a noticeable an unexplained physical ailment that is disfiguring his right hand and there's no reporting about it. The White House's line is that it's from Trump shaking too many hands! Something is clearly being covered up.

It’s hard to not see the Netflix/WB news as a sort of doomsday scenario. The constant mergers and large scale absorptions of brands might be good for business, in theory, but they are bad for art; they are bad for creators; they are bad for preservation. Which makes it bad for us.

you are now realizing how much she was doing for you and instead of just thanking her you’ve decided it’s about the decline of civilization
Because you're an adult you fucking muppet. You gotta pay the magic forward.

We wanted to understand why so many young liberal New Yorkers love Zohran Mamdani. So we talked to three reactionary Free Press contributors at a yoga studio in Los Angeles.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:
You Can’t Fight Fascism While Defunding Libraries
“Libraries embody everything that we need right now to fight back against fascism," says Sara Heymann.

JUST IN: Democrats have flipped the mayor's office in Roswell, Georgia, in tonight's runoff.

GOP Mayor Kurt Wilson conceded earlier tonight to Mary Robichaux, the Dem challenging him.

(This is a city in the Atlanta suburbs, the 9th most populous city in Georgia.)

Finished Defunctland's newest video yesterday and I truly cannot believe that the story of Animatronics ends with Walt Disney getting reanimated in the exact same way in the exact same venue as Abraham Lincoln did. Sometimes real life has real poetry.

pretty remarkable that Costco has more of a spine in fighting for the rule of law than many major universities and fancy law firms

This is especially true for Right Wing Authoritarian personalities. They prioritize "normal" and feel safest when their choices are simple (or made for them) and conform to the group. That level of comfort is easily threatened. Liberals tend to like novelty and choice and difference. Good video.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

Partly to stay up to date on what's happening current event-wise. Partly social (lots of my friends are deep into politics). I'm also have the kind of brain that loves sponging up new things constantly.
here is an interesting question vectoring off from the "people have drives" discussion yesterday

what do you feel drives your engagement with political content on this website? is it social interaction, fear, or something else?

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

I once tried to start a conversation with family about the book I was reading at the time and then asking them what they were reading. Let's just say I felt very ashamed for even bothering to ask.
i figured out the ways i was bad at reading by talking to people about the things i read, whether txting friends or an actual book club. do people not talk to others about what they read?

Read through the Reddit thread referenced in the article and I really think some of these people need to play something else. There are so many other TTRPG systems you can try out if 5e isn't for you anymore.
