The Democrats whining about Dearborn and leftists today "care" about Palestinians in the same way they "care" about Puerto Ricans -- how does the issue affect their electoral calculus. That's it.

Interesting so you think there should be a subsidy scheme for low income people that's interesting hey did you know about a neat little thing called the 'Affordable Care Act' and its various statutory provisions that you voted to defund
Rep. Crenshaw on the Republican ACA replacement plan: "You give the poor vouchers. We want to put that money into health savings accounts."

I’m sorry, but why the fuck should I care about whatever the Republicans are yelling about in Minnesota and fraud. This is what Democrats always do, we let the Republicans set the term of the debate.

Even if this guy actually stole the money, I’ve got bigger fucking problems

“You are not entitled to a response from us, or anyone, ever,” is what a US Education Department spokesperson wrote to one of our reporters, @megomatz.bsky.social, after she repeatedly tried to get comment from the department and its officials. My column on the condemnation of good journalism.
Our Reporters Reached Out for Comment. They Were Accused of Stalking and Intimidation.
Our journalists reach out to people they’re writing about to ensure fairness. But in this environment, they’ve found their efforts to do so are more likely to be vilified than appreciated.

One of my more controversial opinions is that the US needs to significantly raise taxes to the tune of a couple % of GDP right now, even before any expansive social democratic reforms, and that means you—yes you, dear highly educated professional—will need to pay up, not just nebulous billionaires.

shit like this is the core of the damage the social internet has done to us

we have replaced actual expertise with "some dude with a podcast who makes you feel like his buddy while he bullshits into a microphone" and now a ton of people think that measles and chicken pox are the same
Yeah, this dum dum is talking about chicken pox.

Anyway, it's very cool and awesome that he has so much cultural and political influence.

Shamima Begum was the beginning of something in so many ways, one of which was 'the last government's inability to just do its job properly (in this case by passing legislation that would have allowed it to prosecute her here at home) and instead going 'no option but to undermine all our rights'.
There should be literally no circumstances, ever, where citizenship is can be revoked. If you literally sign up to fight for an opposing army in a war, then we should prosecute you for treason not revoke citizenship
Hell, I'm not convinced we should revoke citizenship at all.

But certainly not for being a twat online.

telling those voters "actually, your choice to vote Trump, third party, or sit out was fine, you SHOULD do that whenever you don't have a dem candidate you're enthusiastic for" has OBVIOUS negative consequences and pretending you don't understand that is absurd
“Boo bad voter!!” accomplishes what exactly? It makes those of us who know feel smug but what practical purpose does it accomplish? It gives the people who had Harris campaigning with Cheney and wasting millions on ads on the sphere an out. It lets them say “we did our best but the voters…”
"instead of"

Learn to be able to blame multiple people at once.

Voters making bad choices doesn't mean campaigns are blameless. Campaigns making bad choices doesn't mean voters are blameless. Letting your anger at dems lead you to "voters are blameless" is counterproductive idiocy

I understand that people hate Merrick Garland and institutionalism and all but does no one remember Trump v. United States, 603 U.S. 593 (2024)

I did the full citation because there's more than one Trump v US case where the courts fucked things up!
Joe Biden’s fatal flaw was relying on the reluctant institutionalist Merrick Garland to prosecute the case of insurrectionist Donald J Trump. Had Garland done his job, Trump would have been banned from office and America and the world would not be in this predicament.

The Supreme Court declared him a king after the Senate habitually refused to convict him

Like I'm no fan of Garland in other respects but this insistence that he could've totally put donnie trump in jail and just didn't because norms or something is bizarre

Problem is with impeachment power in a partisan Congress. It's a gun with no bullets; the idea that the electorate empowered a sovereign for four years, and it is anti-democratic to remove him, is so powerful (and so dumb) that you can never really crack his party and get the votes for conviction.

"why did the Soviet Union & Warsaw Pact collapse" gee I dunno maybe because the whole construct existed to enrich Moscow & St Petersburg, & the harder things got, the truer that became
The ussr collapsing the way it did is the fault of decades of mismanagement and corruption but also like if one singular republic that is the most responsible for the union’s death it’s the Russian SFSR and the post collapse Russian state/polis has continued to make it everyone’s else’s issue

We’ve found it, folks, the ultimate form of fetishism of American oppression. Poor Americans simply have no choice but to become fascist thugs, for the benefits.
that choice was made in a system that provides few jobs that pay well with benefits, respect & opportunity to those who don't hale from society's "upper crust."

How many would choose to work at ICE or the military if they had better job opportunities that didn't require them to mete out torture?

This is a point with all too much relevance. The most soft-hearted & introspective person in the Trump Administration's leadership is Donald Trump himself. That should make your guts churn.
Yeah. When I see the British response to Dresden, I see Emily Hobhouse. I see Churchill's anger at the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Even as the British Empire was routinely horrible, there was a domestic political capacity for horror at itself that the Kaiserreich forbade & the Nazis followed that.

[screaming at the top of my lungs, once again] the fundamental technology of humanity is care
We didn't survive and thrive as a species because we had warriors or hunters - pretty much every omnivore can manage that.

We did so because we developed Grandmothers, and domesticated Dogs.

Community is what defines us as a species, and every "self-reliant" libertarian shitweasel be damned.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

It is a recurring frustration that mainstream coverage adopts the framing of these people as pushing for more free speech against people who support some stronger limits. It should be made plain they are the censors. They are the ones who constantly want the state to punish speech they don't like.
Guys who claim to be "free speech absolutists" suing for defamation. Keeps happening.

Read the complaint. It's ridiculously weak. Doesn't even attempt to show actual malice. Repeatedly cites opinion statements as if they're factual.

Censorial bullshit from Taibbi.
