it’s pretty pretty pretty grim to have the vice president literally repeat the rhetoric of white nationalists and then have the most powerful newspaper in the country say “he’s trying to split the difference” because he chose not to enunciate the 14 words.

The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

Calling these fucking sickos 'weird' accomplishes something important, which is refusing to recognize the premises of their disgusting madness. Instead of starting with "OK, I can see where you're coming from," you begin with, "this is weird & gross, what kind of sick fuck would say such a thing"

Great opportunity for a group of credible journalists to launch a cooperatively owned masthead and scoop up a boatload of small dollar donations for seed capital. @defector.com has already shown the way here
There is a tremendous opportunity for a brand new generation of media outlets to rise up right now because many news outlets that spent decades painstakingly building their credibility are seeing it torched by bootlickers with incredible speed.

This is why a tea party style movement is critically necessary on the left. We need to be scaring the shit out of establishment dems
I recognize that it is often USEFUL to be optimistic, but hard to imagine Dems winning with margins and having conviction to do what's necessary. Do Schumer, Jeffries, Booker, Gillibrand really care about anything besides donors?

I often disagree with activists, but senior Dems HATE the left
fwiw I think there is a lot of negative sentiment about our chances of success at this and related which underrates the tremendous power of a restore-national-greatness narrative.

This is the case all across the federal government. It will take decades just to get back to where we were before, the envy of the world with our scientific innovation wich drove our economy.

It’s actually quite clarifying to see pieces like this from @mattyglesias.bsky.social. While many people have speculated whether his opinions arise from stupidity or malice, this piece makes it clear he speaks from plain old greed. The question remaining is only how much he sold it for
Matt Yglesias gets a guest essay in The NY Times to push oil industry propaganda. And he is no different from the likes of Stephen Miller in his approach to the facts. But let's start with his big idea!

"Liberals should support America’s oil and gas industry."

at this point it looks like you have to be putting carbon into the atmosphere out of spite if you do buildouts that aren't primarily solar
This is incredible (good news too): “After a 40% fall in 2024 in battery equipment costs, it’s clear we’re on track for another major fall in 2025…The economics for batteries are unrecognizable, & the industry is only just getting to grips with this new paradigm”

Batteries now cheap enough to make dispatchable solar economically feasible
Energy think tank Ember says utility-scale battery costs have fallen to $65/MWh outside China and the United States, enabling solar power to be delivered when needed.
