#EBOOKS
I truly prefer reading actual books, turning the pages 🤷🏿‍♀️ no ebooks over here

All my recent books went from hardcover to trade paperback and almost all of my backlist in mass market has now migrated to trade. The role of mass market paperbacks is now handled almost entirely by ebooks. I'm okay with this but it is the end of an era.

Last Call for Mass Market Paperbacks
After years of steady sales declines, the format will largely disappear next year.

in a beautiful perfect world i’d be able to at will transform my ebooks into physical books and my physical books into ebooks. just whenever i want

You don't actually own ebooks; you rent them. This is going to make a problem.

wish the shadow libraries i get ebooks from also had audiobooks

the "books spoil, like milk" model has always been exhausting but we're like 20 years into the world of ebooks now, at some point you'd think we would rethink the model
Someday I will understand the logic behind "a book has made all the money it will ever make in the first week and after that we will ignore it as a weird little corpse till the end of our rights" but right now it just seems incredibly antithetical to what books are.
NEW: It’s not just readers that suffer due to Harlequin’s mismanagement of the' Heated Rivalry' books. Reid misses out on royalties, & booksellers miss out on commissions—which is especially painful during the holiday season when many small businesses make the bulk of their money.

Was bored with grabbing my phone to read news in the morning so I started reading ebooks from the library in the early-morning hours before I get the kid up. The daily vibes are so much better this way.

I mean, you can even get digital audio books through @libro.fm and ebooks through @bookshop.org so what's even the point of that other online "bookstore?"
Just because you're staying in to avoid the snow today doesn't mean you can't shop local & independent. portersquarebooks.com does everything that other online bookstore does!

If AI gets to read all our ebooks the publishing solution is going to be to take all art offline.

No more ebooks. No more uploaded art on websites. No more streaming music.

If it's all physical, it can't feed AI... and it becomes hard for people to find. Which makes AI stuff easier to sell.

ATTENTION READERS!

I'll be making a full post about this later, but I'm pulling my ebooks from Amazon Kindle.

If you have purchased them there, feel free to send a screenshot to klrauthor at gmail dot com.

I will send you unencrypted versions of all books you've purchased from me!

Killed by ebooks, it would seem.

as someone who mostly hates reading hardbacks, trade paperbacks and ebooks I do not welcome the demise of mass market paperbacks.
December 14, 2025 at 9:13 PM
I didn’t know they were allowed to put links in library ebooks to try to make you purchase another book??

I will be reading the next one for free also, thanks

(another important note: "in bookstores" doesn't include libraries, schools, or ebooks, so overall sales are probably about twice that)

Reminder - there are many sources for books other than Amazon if you cannot make it to a local shop or library.

I use a combo of betterworld/bookshops.org (physical online), eBooks/Kobo (digital), and Libro.fm (for audio).

And don't forget Libby is a fantastic library app.
Books I've read & enjoyed recently...

Brigands and Breadknives 🐭
Dungeon Crawler Carl 1-7 🦶
How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying (+ sequel) ⌛
Ring the Bells (Stranger Times 5) 🎅
Of Monsters and Mainframes 🐺
The Impossible Fortune 👵

Unpaginated ebooks are evil enough!
December 13, 2025 at 6:07 PM
Amazon is making it so that people who buy our DRM-free ebooks can download the files as epub and PDF. I never have DRM on my ebooks. I am delighted readers will be able to get the files from more places.

Amazon is still evil, but this + allowing library distribution in KU is making me look at KU.

In light of this, I'll be pulling all of my ebooks from Amazon at the end of the month and Woman of Sorrow and Blood will NOT be published in ebook on Amazon

I will still be distributing print books through Amazon because it's much easier/more cost effective than the alternatives
