One of our favorite family traditions every year is our own take on the Jólabókaflóð. We sit around with a roaring fire and warm beverages, and read books to ourselves and our kids. For me this year, some moral philosophy, social horror, and science fiction. We are book lovers to our core. 📚🔥

Este año me he debido portar bien, porque Santa Claus ha sido muy generoso. Esta edición de “La princesa prometida” es una maravilla.

Jólabókaflóð the Icelandic Tradition of giving books and reading them Xmas Eve in Iceland...Kinda same thing as you have to get clothing or socks because of the Xmas Cat.

Two things you get every year in Iceland books and socks. Icelandic read ALOT and the Yule Cat eats you without clothing....

We are starting a new Christmas Eve tradition, we had hot chocolate and read new books (or at least unread previously).

I chose The Last American Road Trip by @sarahkendzior.bsky.social , whose writing is amazing.

Jólabókaflóð, or the "Christmas Book Flood," is a beloved Icelandic tradition where books are exchanged as gifts on Christmas Eve, and the night is spent reading and drinking hot chocolate.

Icelanders are awesome. I need to move there.

Truth. Ebooks are rad.

We are enjoying Jolabokafloð, the tradition of reading together on Christmas Eve. I’ve got a Slough House novel; Kimberly and Levi are reading some nonfiction. There are cookies and hot chocolate. Hope y’all have a lovely one.
I don't know who needs to hear this but ebooks are the perfect last-minute gift: virtually instant, doesn't need to be wrapped, and there's something for everyone - including, for example, sapphic gaspunk murder mysteries set on Jupiter: www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/...

A repost reminder:
It is traditional in Iceland to give the gift of a book to be opened on Christmas Eve. Books are unwrapped and then read together. It is called Jolabokaflod (Christmas book flood). 📖 🎄

My family celebrates Jolabokaflod - this year's book is my family slowly getting me closer to owning the entire series.

There is an Icelandic tradition called Jólabókaflóð, where books are exchanged as #ChristmasEve presents, & the rest of the night is spent reading them & drinking hot chocolate.

Now why don't we do this in the UK?

"Jólabókaflóð", translating to "Christmas Book Flood," is a cherished tradition in #Iceland, celebrated on Xmas Eve. It involves giving & receiving new books, enjoying delicious treats while sipping on hot chocolate while quietly reading.

Really looking forward to tonight. We follow the Icelandic tradition of Jólabókaflóð, literally 'Christmas book flood'. Rather than watching regrettable repeats on TV, you give each other a book and then settle down with a nice hot chocolate to read them. It's fab! 📚

Today on Youtube I have some book recommendations, mostly in Old Norse studies and other historical languages, but including some out-of-left-field favorites or notable titles from all over the place at the end. Gleðilegt jólabókaflóð! (Happy Yule Book Flood!) youtu.be/lSV2CO0lTaQ

My favourite (totally stolen) tradition of Christmas is coming up - Jólabókaflód. We give books as presents and then read them with a hot drink (or festive beer).

For the last few years, I have been sharing my annual list of book recommendations for Jólabókaflóð. We didn't talk about this tradition during our last Friday tea, but giving books for the holidays really is one of my favourite things to do!
