I'm sure many of you have heard by now that earlier this week, IU k*lled the print edition of its student paper, the IDS. The issue that was supposed to print this week contained criticism of the Whitten regime and IUs further slide into scist control, and they couldn't allow that to happen during Homecoming, when all the rich alumni are in town.
Enter Purdue! The Purdue student paper, The Exponent, owns its own presses. Yesterday, in an act of tremendous solidarity with their biggest rival school, they printed the forbidden issue of the IDS. They then drove it to Bloomington overnight and stocked all of the IDS boxes on campus, just in time for Homecoming.
Solidarity is what makes us stronger, and solidarity will be what ultimately allows us to triumph, if we can ever truly get it together. I hope everyone has a fun, safe day if they're going out today, and I hope we can think about what acts of solidarity we can begin taking to really make this movement MOVE - beyond a permitted expression of upset into more active resistance.

I am one of these so-called profoundly autistic people this article describes. I cannot utter meaningful speech, and as a result, I was branded for years as someone with an intellectual disability and an I.Q. of 40. All this time, however, I understood everything that was going on around me. I just could not show it to others because of my deranged relationship with my own body.

I am concerned about the creation of a separate category, called profound autism, for those of us with the most severe disabilities. There are real differences between the sort of autism that I have and so-called Asperger’s syndrome. But it does not help us at all to impose a hierarchy of lower and higher functioning. We need to figure out how to tap into the skills and insights of those of us who cannot talk, who make up anywhere from 25 percent to 40 percent of the autistic community, depending on the estimate.

For me, the way out of this dilemma was learning to communicate by typing. I suddenly went from being seen as intellectually impaired to taking college classes. I was never low-functioning, and neither are my autistic brothers and sisters without the ability to speak. I was just misjudged and ignored, and I fear that my fate will be the fate of many others termed low functioning in this new schema.

I don't wanna sound pessimistic! HIV infections have been steadily falling in both the UK and US (though there's been a recent UK uptick).

PrEP is a huge deal! A lot of straight people don't know there's a pill that prevents HIV. You just gotta a) get it and b) take it every day.

I know it's not always helpful to have historians popping up with previous examples, but I would be remiss if I did not point out that this is exactly the same tactic Harvard used to circumscribe abolitionist meetings on campus in the Antebellum era.

Chang, Potter, and O’Brien wrote on Thursday that SAHEP and HSHRC also broke school rules by sharing social media posts promoting the event alongside an unrecognized student group and by advertising the event “in a manner that broadened the invitation beyond the permitted Harvard ID holders.”

The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.
