The Tricky Business of Faerie Bargains is out 4/7/2026! It has things like:
~Hiking!
~contracts!
~that 1000 year old immortal you dated when you were a teen, which seems a little weird now that you're almost 30 and have had some therapy!
~discussion of the likelihood that faerie dinosaurs existed???

Tricky has a face! Look at how beautiful!

The cover of The Tricky Business of Faerie Bargains, by Reena McCarty

The background is a night sky, dark blue on top, fading down to a bright blue behind a mountain range. There is a little peek of sun or moon behind the mountains, and a stone circle in the foreground at the bottom. The bulk of the cover is a slightly stained scroll that has the title, The Tricky Business of Faerie Bargains, written in two different fonts.

The scroll is surrounded by and almost holding back a bunch of plants and flowers–pine branches and cones, balsamroots, lupines, and prairie rockets, along with things like chokecherries, huckleberries, and morels. There are also a few other things in the border–a bronze dagger, a salt shaker, a spoon, and a pen, along with a scattering of iron nails.

GenAI truly was the worst technology to come along at this moment.

An energy and water guzzler when we most urgently need to take climate action.

A disinformation machine as our journalism fails.

A bias machine as fascism takes root.

A job killer in a cost of living crisis.

You know what, let's do the Annual Mister Global National Costume thread tonight after all. Usual rules apply - this is all in fun, this isn't about the contestants looks or making fun of them, it's about the costumes and appreciating them (or, you know, making fun of them...)

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

The RIAA was suing teenagers. We had to sit through ⬇️ this shit anytime we wanted to watch a DVD. A whole generation shamed for using Limewire and torrents. Only for these silicone valley assholes to now find copyright infringement a necessary evil they shouldn’t have to answer for

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

This -- seeing the books that are being targeted most NOW really makes what is being done hit harder. It actually undercuts the real threat to show books that are famous and still selling fine.

A call to bookshops when setting up banned books displays. Feature alive authors who could be struggling due to this. Yes, Stephen King gets banned but he's doing ok financially. So many others are not.

Just a reminder that Banned Books Week isn’t about selling more copies of 1984. It’s about keeping authors and teachers and librarians safe and making sure all of us have the freedom to read widely. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

I had to come to a complete stop in the middle of the road while driving to work this morning because some 4-point prince-of-the-forest ass buck decided that a saunter was the appropriate speed at which to cross the street. Like sir. You are in town. Use the crosswalk and move quickly, please.

I got a pretty nasty burn at work last week right on my wrist bone, and it was healing really well until I went back to work THIS week and in the past couple of days I've bumped it roughly 7492 times and now it looks lightly inflamed. I want hazard pay.

The "set aside the art from the artist" thing in this case is moot. Harry Potter money now goes right to destroying the human rights of trans persons. A billionaire who got her ass kissed for two decades got a rebuke and now she's got to wreck the lives of others.

It cannot be made clearer.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.

I wrote an analysis of a novel for Modern Japanese History in about 40 minutes, after only semi-skimming the book, and got not just an A but a note from the professor that said my English was "almost perfect".

I think I was in grad school before I started a single paper earlier than the night before it was due. I was the queen of midnight submission deadlines and shoving it under the door before the professor got to their office in the morning. Bullshit & scrambling are valuable skills that are being lost

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.

Also, the way to not "die on that hill" is to be united. These folks who want to jettison trans folks, immigrants, Black folks, etc. are so short sighted they think it'd be a victory to die a couple steps later, when choosing solidarity is actually choosing to not die at all
jongraywb.bsky.social
If you are willing to throw away entire groups of people to protect your insular strategy that will only protect you instead of protecting everyone then I don’t want your leaders and I sure as hell don’t want to be associated with you.
talleststone.bsky.social
I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.
