Democrats’ high road in peaceful transfer of power feels like a dead end In her article “As Harris certifies her own loss, some see message about democracy” (Page A1, Jan. 4), Tal Kopan presents the view of top Democrats, including our own Senator Elizabeth Warren, that not making a stand to object to Donald Trump’s reelection is “the right thing to do,” that it shows “we still believe in following the Constitution.” Maybe there once was a world where that could be true, but that is not this world. Trump’s election to a second term is the culmination of the Jan 6, 2021, insurrection. Our Founders knew a Republic cannot hand power to an insurrectionist and expect to get it back when his turn is up; Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which Warren did not mention, exists to prevent this scenario. When the group reached the front desk, the woman learned she didn’t have a hotel room. Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him, according to five administration officials familiar with the episode. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him, three of those officials said.

The Senate has just passed the military NDAA containing 2 anti-trans provisions: a surgery ban using federal funds (dependents too), and a sports ban on military academy spaces.

This will be the STARTING point for negotiations with the House, which has even worse provisions.

Only 20 Dems opposed.

Presidents and governors shouldn't be able to deploy National Guard troops from one state to another if that state's governor objects.

That is common sense, and yet Republicans just blocked my amendment to stop this blatant abuse of power. Another shameful abdication of duty.

Failing more slowly isn't winning. Holding actions in court isn't winning.

Only three governors out of fifty are putting up varying degrees of opposition rhetorically, but not doing much with their powers as governor.

Senators not voting for the budget is something, but single-minded focus on healthcare without linking it to failure of the Constitution is a strategic mistake, and agreeing to reopen just for healthcare would be a major failure.
