And to any American who says this question isn't racist, I'd like to ask, if someone says to you, "Where are you from?" will you say Sweden/Germany/Italy etc.? Or will you say where you, yourself are from?

And if you trace one of my family lines back far enough, you'll hit a first-degree relative of Daniel Boone. But the true meaning of that question is, of course, "Why don't you look like you belong here."

One of the most consistently exhausting questions I get is, "Where are you from?" The answer is that I was born and raised in MN as were my parents and one of my grandparents, the others being from KY and CA. You have to go back to my great-grandparents to find someone born outside the US.

Everything bagel with veg cream cheese, but ONLY if it's from the bagel shop on my walk to work when I lived on LI, with the perfect blend in the cream cheese of just right sized diced scallions, red pepper, and some other things I can't remember since it's been almost 10 years. I miss that so much.

This is true and they are super endangered by poachers who shovel them up by the hundreds and sell them at flea markets and shit. You should not buy the plants and if you happen to kick the poacher in the shins on accident, no one will hear about it from me.

still amazing to me the number of movies, games, etc. which have Venus Flytrap-based creatures in some form compared to the actual native range of Venus Flytrap, which is like, the great untamed jungles of a few wet pine savannas in North Carolina
map illustrating the native range of Venus Flytrap plants, just a little half circle around coastal North and South Carolina in USA

In video games, you will often find a fully roasted chicken abandoned on the ground, and eating it extremely quickly makes you feel better. What's less known is that this is also true in real life

Well. Crap. The jurisdiction where I'm a poll worker uses their machines. On the plus side, they leave a paper trail since all of our ballots are "fill in the bubble" type, like a scantron test. On the downside...

I've had Tesla Ubers twice, and both times the driver had to explain how to open the door to get out, because everything I tried wasn't working. Seems like a really cool, safe design.

the most delightful version of logging on to see what news you've missed
Dr Ramsdell, whose phone had been on airplane mode when the Nobel committee tried to call him, told the BBC's Newshour Programme that his first response when his wife said, "You've won the Nobel prize" was: "I did not."

To which Ms O'Neill replied that she had 200 text messages that suggested he had.
