As a Dartmouth alum, I have two very strong memories of Rev. Jesse Jackson:

1. 1988 primary speech at the Afro-Am Society. The greatest speech I ever attended live with a small audience (Obama 2008 convention is the large audience).

2. Green Eggs & Ham on SNL.

His alleged mistress left her precious heated blanket on the other plane, so Corey Lewandowski demanded the pilot turn the plane around to go get it.

When he refused, Lewandowski -- who has zero authority to fire anyone at any time -- tried to fire the pilot IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLIGHT.
it's even worse than first reported

the fucking guy caused an inflight disruption so bad the pilot had to leave the command deck then he was like I RELIEVE U OF DUTY

New details emerge about in-flight blow-up between Corey Lewandowski and pilot
Additional details have emerged about a mid-flight showdown between Homeland Security advisor Corey Lewandowski that led to a Coast Guard pilot's firing — and immediate reinstatement.DHS Secretary Kri...

Bari Weiss built her career in part by whining about how the left was supposedly censoring conservatives. “The Free Press” - the unironic title of her publication - ran numerous pieces about a “censorship-industrial complex.”

Now, under her watch, we get to see real censorship - and hypocrisy.

That treasure is the treasure of mercy. The merciful God giving us the opportunity to be merciful ... make us more joyful and filled with peace, even in a world where cruelty and tumult are the way to advance in government and commerce.⚓

A sermon for Ash Wednesday, Bebruary 18, 2026 St. John's Episcopal Church, New City, New York But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret. Some of you have probably noticed that in a couple of minutes after hearing this from Jesus, we are all going to have ashes spread on our faces.

i think jesse jackson was one of the most important american political figures of the post-war era and i think that his 1984 and 1988 campaigns for the democratic nomination still have a great deal to teach about forging a path to a more egalitarian world. RIP.

A thing that annoys me about the Axios newsletter is that the tone is consistently “I am one of the top experts on this thing I learned about five minutes ago.” Also that they have 280 sources in the White House but their only source on the left is Rep. Capitulate Middle (D).

I grew up in New England, my grandparents lived in Maine, I was a camp counselor in Maine… Maine, we gotta have words over Susan Collins, I’m sorry
A former Democratic colleague of hers once told me that Susan Collins is “usually there when you don’t need her and never there when you actually do.” The moderate brand she projects is entirely performative. It’s always surprised me that Maine voters don’t seem to care.
Thirty years of concern. Never enough courage.

There are very few things I believe more strongly than this:

If you orient your politics around things that you know are not true, or don’t care if are true, whether because it sounds good, or you think it’ll impress people, or any other reason, you are planting the seeds of your own destruction.

Heh. Who'd a thunk that Los Angeles people who like bagels aren't right wing know-nothing idiots?
The absurd hyperlocal drama I am in invested in: an LA bagel truck chain called (help) Yeastie Boys did a collaboration with the New York Post’s new California branch. Painted trucks red, handed out mock papers. You’re never gonna believe this but bagel truck patrons aren’t Murdoch fans, turns out

It's important that those working against "moderate Republicans" in swing districts, like NY-17 (Mike Lawler) get their representatives on record about this appointment and others. Lawler would deny he's a white supremacist, but he'd also try to avoid criticizing any of Trump's appointees.

interesting to think that revolutionary era americans understood themselves as making a break with the “old world” and establishing a new civilization. and crucially, this new civilization rested on republican self-government, not “sovereignty.”
The Rubio speech really is appalling, and if you haven’t read it yet, you should.
