Politics, positivity, photos of cats, flowers, and art sometimes, and whatever else I feel like. She/her
Years ago walking through NYC’s fashion district with my Mom I saw Tim Gunn. I tried to play it cool and do nothing, but my mom happily waved as he walks by and yells: “Hi Tim Gunn! Bye Tim Gunn!”

None of us stopped and he didn’t wave back, but he DID grin a little and nod!
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

What would it be like if we took a short break from posting or engaging with hate reads and focused our energy on getting this very worthy organization funded? Can't donate? That's OK! Spread the word across your socials. Post fliers with QR codes. Simple actions that can have a large impact.

I’ve seen a lot of fellow fujos feeling a way about heated rivalry’s success and I get it, but I think we need to at least acknowledge how huge this is for us and for queer people!

I still want to raise funds for Palestine Children's Relief Fund, so I've reduced the prices on these pieces because something is better than nothing!
100% of proceeds from these pieces goes straight to PCRF. ✨💖

MTG is not your bigoted aunt or co-worker. She's an EXTREMELY wealthy fascist demagogue. You don't have to listen to random elite pundits and politicians lecturing you about "big tent" politics with respect to her.

The other thing about normalizing gAI use in higher ed is that we are teaching our students that they cannot trust their own creativity, their own thoughts and brains, their own skills without having it reshaped/shellacked/transmogrified by LLMs. We’re setting them up for failure and dependence.

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

Buttons are back. Knobs are back. Dumb devices are back. Own-it-forever software is back. Print is back. Personal websites and chronological feeds are back. Touching grass is back. People keep saying 2015, but it’s not far enough. The entire 2010s were a mistake. We must retvrn to… 2009.
Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.

Should I start this? Would people want to follow an account on here that just posts/reposts mutual aid stories?

A leaked DoJ memo calls for prosecutors to charge people who film ICE with “domestic terrorism”

They don’t want their atrocities documented.

They don’t want a historical record.

They don’t want the world to know.

That’s why we have to keep filming. Keep speaking out.

As people start reflecting on what they accomplished this past year, if you are feeling less than, remember that capitalism wants you to compete with others. Your worth is in being human, full stop. That’s it. Anything else is a bonus.

Another private equity horror story.

I'm still waiting for an example where private equity has made a company or acquisition better for customers or the company.
Sears had more than 3,400 stores in 2005 -- then it was purchased by a hedge fund magnate.

We don’t need AI to “be creative” for us; we need a world in which there is time and space to wonder, joke and play with words. To fuck around with color and texture, to experiment with an intriguing sound, without the need to immediately convert process and artifact into engagement to stay solvent.

I see there’s a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%).
Lay article attached:
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Every few years, the tires on your car wear thin and need to be replaced. But where does that lost tire material go? The answer, unfortunately, is often waterways, where the tiny microplastic particle...
