Ganz genau: Trump verrät sich hier, in dem er deutlich macht, dass Beistand nicht zu erwarten ist. Das war’s dann eigentlich mit der NATO.
Exactly this. In fact, with the argument that Denmark is too small to protect Greenland against China or Russia and that is why the U.S. needs to annex the Island, Trump just told everyone openly that he would not defend Denmark (and other NATO partners) unless the relevant country is U.S. property.
This should be obvious to everyone: if Europe backs down and lets the US take Greenland, the transatlantic relationship would no longer be an alliance. Europeans would become dominated American satellites without sovereignty just like EEuropeans were Soviet satellites in the Warsaw Pact years.

Jens Spahn, chairman of the CDU/CSU in German parliament on a possible US invasion of Greenland: “When you look at Greenland's location on the globe, the questions raised by the US are understandable.”
Utter madness.
Das hat Jens Spahn gerade erst gestern, am Freitag, in der SZ gesagt. Diese Servilität, dieses Sich-in-den-Staub-Werfen der Union vor einem skrupellosen Potentaten ist einfach nur entsetzlich.
Service post: text of the ACI in English&German --- eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-conten... A lot of procedure, quite a contrast to free-wheeling on TruthSocial. Important: qualified majority for the implementing act...

Klare Worte aus dem EP.
New US-Tariffs for several nations are unbelievable. This is no way to treat partners. A new line has been crossed. Unacceptable.
POTUS is using trade as an instrument of political coercion. The EU cannot simply move on to business as usual (1/3)

First statement from Macron:

“Tariff threats are unacceptable and have no place in this context. Should they materialise, Europeans will respond in a united and coordinated manner. We will ensure that European sovereignty is upheld. In this spirit, I will speak with our European partners.”

Trump starting a trade war over Greenland. 🤡 Ilegal and idotic. EU will activate the Anti-coercion instrument. EU plus Norway and UK must stand firm.
I’ve been stalwart backer of transatlantic alliance all my life. I understand why Europeans have so far trod softly/tried to keep Trump onside. But, there comes a time when you have to face reality. The US is no longer our ally. Its defense guarantee is worthless. Time to kick ass back🧵

If you listen very carefully, you can hear Charles de Gaulle screaming I BLOODY TOLD YOU SO from some rural French cemetery.

Trump said that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland would face the tariff and that it would climb to 25% on June 1 if a deal is not in place for “the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland” by the United States.

Trump says 8 European countries will be charged a 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland
President Donald Trump says he'll charge a 10% import tax starting in February on goods from eight European countries because of opposition to U.S. control of Greenland.

The hitherto toughest test to Nordic solidarity is beginning.

Last time the Nordics failed to stick together, Norway and Denmark got occupied by nazi Germany and Finland invaded by the Soviet Union.
Trump to hit Europe with 10% tariffs until Greenland deal is agreed
US president said levies against eight nations would rise to 25% unless they support his acquisition of the island

There are going to be limits to what you can make other countries do by threatening to tax your own citizen's purchases of their products.

I believe handing over entire territories falls well beyond those limits.

Machado proves she was the wrong choice for the Nobel prize. Well. Nobel prize committee should demand the medal back from Trump.
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado gifted her Nobel Peace Prize to President Trump.

The position of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and the Norwegian Nobel Institute has been clear: “Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared or transferred.”

Genau. Ramstein Air base schließen wäre ein Beispiel.
If the US continues to make threats, European countries could refuse to refuel American ships in European ports, require higher payments for the stationing of US troops — or even close US military bases entirely.
US intentions towards Greenland threaten NATO’s future. But European countries are not helpless
US threats to annex Greenland following the attack on Venezuela should be taken seriously. European countries have important leverage they should be prepared to use.

„ But ultimately, as has been the case for centuries, the rules-based system, warts and all, will prevail. In a world replete with differences, international law may well be the only common language we have.“

There’s a lot of talk about NATO’s Article 5, and what it would mean if one NATO country attacked another.

There’s not nearly enough attention being paid to Article 42.7 of the Treaty of Lisbon, and what happens if an EU member state is attacked.

Did someone actually read his Miranda rights to Maduro...?
That means Maduro & Venezuela can invoke that Maduro has personal immunity against arrest, criminal investigation & prosecution. If US judges don't recognize such immunity (or that Maduro is the president of Venezuela) it opens up for other states to act similarly, potentially against US interests.
Rodriguez: "We demand the immediate release of our President, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife Cilia Flores"

Rodriguez says that Maduro is still the President of Venezuela.
