This is a power grab. Shane Jones wants to reduce any hurdles - such as regional councils rejecting resource consents - to mining.

Don't let them take our democratic rights away without any opposition.

Paywall now lifted: Christopher Luxon said in 2023 he would ‘draw the line at’ using AI video ads, but after National published two AI videos in the past month, his office now says that only applied to fakes of real people.

404, as usual, has the correct take. This is about the incentives that create the behavior - both X incentivizing the grifters, but also X's incentive to let them run wild because they have to get the engagement somewhere after tortuting everyone else off the platform.

Did a standup show yesterday that was themed around "technology".

My set was about how toilets that wash your asshole are a more useful technology and a better use of water than AI.

Big cheers from the crowd.

Centrist waffle doesn't appeal to people. Showing that you care about something, that you want to make people's lives better, that you will listen to them and use your position to do it, and unifying "minor" issues under a coherent story about your principles and goals REALLY APPEALS TO PEOPLE

I don't know what even the point of arguing with these people is anymore, but the idea that "the crime gene" had been weeded out by 19th-20th century Europe is something you have to be a genuine imbecile to believe.

Puberty blockers: why politicians overriding doctors sets a dangerous precedent
Analysis: The government's ban on puberty blockers for gender-affirming care prioritises politics and ideology over decades of expert clinical guidance and patient safety evidence.

I just spent the last two hours debugging the Bluetooth stack *in anger* because for the last few weeks I've had to re-pair my mouse with my laptop. Every time. Remove mouse, re-pair.

Turns out I had two identical mice in my backpack and I've been switching between them.

It was me.

Exactly this. This is both an act of deliberate cruelty towards a marginalised, vulnerable community and a trial balloon to see how far they can push, and how fast.
(Going by the last two years and the pace and volume of erosion, and active targeting of vulnerable people - very far, and very fast.)

Anyone buying a Tesla in 2025 gets an additional free feature: a full stereoscopic view of my middle finger anytime they drive by.
Read the comment this replies too. Tesla sent a model they've been making for 10 years to a car magazine to test, and the lug nuts came loose. The tech to perfectly tighten those critical nuts has been known since Ford's MODEL A in the 1920s. OVER 100 YEARS. Tesla is 100 years behind on mechanics.
Auto factory worker here...

LOOSE LUG NUTS AT 500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER?

EVERY major company uses very expensive "torque control" tools with fancy electric motors controlled by computers to tighten lugnuts so they DON'T come loose. OMFG.

politicians are shutting off personal health care because of petty culture wars, not medicine or science. this will not stop with trans kids
NZ First are actually evil. They don't care how many lives they may ruin to get the anti-trans vote.

the future sucks!!! I hate it!!!
So Barfoot and Thompson’s “AI Assistant” (ie a fake man) called my cell to talk about the property market today. Essentially a spam call. Is that even legal in NZ?

I have learned from Sarah Kendzior that I should not say what I would like to happen to the author of this article
It bears remembering that this woman, according to the IPCA report, sent at least 36 emails to media outlets, presumaby including NZME, as well as the PM, Police Minister, and police command in Dec 2023 & Jan 2024, and they did fuck-all about it too
www.newstalkzb.co.nz/on-air/heath...
Perspective with Heather du Plessis-Allan: The woman in the Jevon McSkimming saga wasn't innocent here
So it turns out the woman with whom Jevon McSkimming had an affair, whose warnings police ignored and who police charged instead of investigating McSkimmin

Imagine spending years being gaslit so brutally that your only recourse is to accuse them again and again and again, being arrested for accusing them of What They Actually Did, eventually being vindicated, but still charged?

And they wonder why victims don't come to them for help...
It's interesting that NZ Police can be so proactive and decisive about pursuing charges for digital harm and harassment of a senior male police officer, yet find pressing charges when the victim is a woman almost impossible...
