Twin Cities' horrors continue though media has moved on. Families are still in hiding (schools w/virtual options till April), ICE still abducting people w/disregard for law, ongoing need for rent relief. Here's one hyper-local effort from my trusted colleague. Please RT even if you can't donate.

Kansas Republicans overrode Gov Kelly's veto of their "Bathroom Bounty" bill to allow ppl to sue trans ppl they think used the wrong bathroom. SCOTUS allowed Texas to try this for abortion & I fear we'll see more bounty hunter bills like this. I'm working on a piece for @rewirenewsgroup.com now

Ho-lee Shit. This is phenomenally good news. Department of Education rolls back— for now— its attempts to destroy Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility initiatives. Keep an eye on them, of course, and watch for the hidden knife, always, but for now: Fantastic news.
BREAKING: The Department of Education has ended its directive that attempted to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in schools nationwide.

This is a victory for academic freedom and education equity.

The "budget dance" and embedded explanation of it here by @prisonculture.bsky.social is brilliant and describes what has been done by both parties to almost all public goods. It's more than just defunding, it's forced inability to plan ahead.
thank you so much for explaining the stupid budget dance libraries have to go through, it's something i explain to people (and esp library patrons!!) whenever i get the chance but still not enough people know about it

I hope New Yorkers will challenge Mamdani about this. Too often, people feel they need to be absolutely for or against a politician — ignoring their missteps or throwing them out with the bathwater. You can like and/or believe in someone and still challenge them to deliver on their promises.

The concentration camps will not only be for immigrants, documented or otherwise. They already aren't.

They won't only be for brown and Black people.

The targets will keep expanding. It will not end.

The only way it will is if we stop it. Both in and out of the system. There is no other way.

Exactly. He's like Yglesias. All these creeps who advocate cutting people out of the coalition in order to shore up the coalition NEVER would cut out the billionaires. Deeply flawed, morally and politically unserious people.
Newsom will throw 1-2% of the population under the bus to befriend fascists, but the moment the richest 0.000475% might have to make a one-time payment of 5% he comes out swinging against the best interest of his state.

The last Year of the Fire Horse began in '66 & saw anti-war protests & civil rights struggle. It was the year Rev. Jackson left seminary to join Dr. King’s Freedom Movement.

May 2026 bring New York the same bold change people deserve.

Jesus.. knew it was bad, but this?
wealth concentration is already 200% as bad at is was in 2020. think about that
The pace at which US wealth concentration is rising is simply staggering

The concentration of AI wealth into the hands of a few tech barons + plutocratic capture ==> unchartered territory

You shouldn't buy what they say just because someone claims to be in your camp.

We can learn from the way race scientists sought legitimacy and got it through the academy, as detailed in Superior: The Return of Race Science, by Angela Saini.

That's what has happened here.

This whole fight over transgender stuff happening on X is so weird to me. The most notable thing about trans issues in the last 5 years has been the enormous, coordinated anti-trans activism campaign across the right, aided by moral cowards in the center.

But that campaign is *never mentioned*.

There must be trials. Not as an emotive aspiration, rhetorical meme, or empty threat. A concrete plan. A dedicated special court for it. Structural legislation and prosecutors and funding and all the rest of it. Everything necessary for it can be done constitutionally. All it takes is the will.

90 years ago, prominent German physicist Albert Einstein, artist Kathe Kollwitz, writer Heinrich Mann, & others appealed for a unity coalition against the Nazi Party in coming elections.

United the other parties could narrowly win. Divided Hitler would win. The opposition didn't unite.
