The decline of rural Black Belt Democrats has been one of the most depressing trends of the Trump years so I'm really hoping this is a sign that it might start to reverse
With nearly half of the vote reporting in the Louisiana #HD60 (Trump+13) special election:

Chasity Martinez (D)- 61%
Brad Daigle (R)- 39%

Martinez is currently outperforming Harris's 2024 margins by around 30 points throughout the district.

worth noting that if any of Virginia's 4 or California's 7 Republican reps want to save their seats, I am EXTREMELY confident that Speaker Jeffries could get a no-frills single issue national gerrymandering ban over to the Senate by let's say close of business Wednesday. Just say the word.

on the balance i think partisan gerrymandering is bad but the only way it ends is if democrats weaponize it against republicans everywhere they can. wiping out republican lawmakers in blue states might bring the GOP to the table to end the practice.

it's actually a really good political skill that Mamdani convinces people that this is true. I think American politicians, especially dems, really failed/forgot how to slap their names on shit and say that they did, they are why people are benefiting from X etc, even when that isn't strictly true.

ME: Dominos.

CHOTINER: Right. And you can order from your laptop?

ME: Yeah. Well, I can also use my phone. Sometimes that’s quicker.

CHOTINER: And all the food in your fridge and pantry. When do you eat that?

ME: Now hang on a second,

it is just. a generational Feat. to somehow clear the field for a candidate for a swing seat that does not want to run, cannot raise money in state, and is incredibly unpopular.
if nobody else can jump in we hope for White Gallego over Fetterman 2, I don't see a way out of this

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

Don’t want to read too much into it but this is a critical point: a district with Southlake of all
places in it has tons of rich suburban Rs who show up for every election. If those people aren’t showing up or are voting blue it’s a five-alarm fire for the GOP
Yes it's a low turnout special but this is the type of district where Republicans should be able to win a low turnout special, not see a ~30 point shift from 2024.

JUST IN: Democrats flip a red seat in the Texas Senate.

Taylor Rehmet wins against Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist who helped lead right-wing efforts to take over TX school boards.

With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43.

Trump won this seat by 17% in Tarrant County.

I find it necessary these days to affirm the obvious because the descent into fascism is mostly a continuous, not discrete, process so here it goes:

these are internal checkpoints by secret police for what is routine freedom of movement.
It’s been reported locally, but I’m not sure how much national notice this has gotten. As part of this invasion by shithead goons, they are putting ICE agents in jetbridges and other parts of the airport at Minneapolis-Saint Paul. If you are flying Delta via MSP, you are putting yourself at risk.
