My first language was German. Now my command of French and English might be better than that of German. But I still feel strongly that the real name of things is the German name. Weirdly, sometimes I feel the real word is the Italian word (maybe too much Latin in school).

The word “autism” was first used to describe behavioral differences in children in 1911 but autism has been documented using available records going back to the 1700s (definitively) and further.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol, paracetamol) was discovered in 1878 and first sold in the United States in 1950.

I’m thinking that universities could save money by relieving faculty of their duties and focusing on the important things. Semi-pro sports, semi-pro sorority rush, and allowing students to segregate themselves into “exclusive” clubs for the purpose of networking after college.

Any journalist or commentator who writes a wrap-up of this speech that suggests that any of it was normal, worthy of respect, not absolutely deranged, not an insult to the audience, not an embarrassment for the US, should be relieved of their jobs.

And though I have little to offer beyond surpassing rage and national shame, I did smile at this statement from NYU's Arthur Caplan:

Whether they're blaming vaccines and Tylenol, or selling dubious "remedies," what they're really doing is promoting the perception that families (and especially mothers) can prevent and treat Autism. And thus also the perception that people with Autism and their families don't need social support.
