THREAD: Viral misinformation on US capture of Nicolas Maduro - 4 January

This video, shared by Alex Jones and others, falsely claims to show millions of Venezuelans in Caracas celebrating Maduro's capture.

In fact, it shows anti-Maduro protests in July 2024 over a highly disputed election.
Cancer research costs too much but we have the money to run Venezuela
If your position is that regime change should be forced on countries where the president does not respect democratic norms and regularly kidnaps opponents using an officially sanctioned paramiliatary, have I got news for you about your position on the United States

Interesting that they seem to hate "white trash" economic migrants too. Are class/geographic inferiors also part of the 100 million?

Until fairly recently it was standard practice at the elitest Ivies to grant promotion to associate for a 3 or 4 year contract before booting people, or, rarely, tenuring them

Not at Harvard in 1991.

A. You're 70
B. You're a reactionary asshole who thinks liberal education is banning topics you don't like
C. Protecting each other from dying does not conform to your idea of a liberal education

All right people so literally I downloaded one of the government documents to Books on my iPad. I highlighted some text that was not redacted and it included some that was redacted and I copied it over to notes and I pasted it and you can see everything unredacted.

"Free press," indeed

People are rightly upset about the image thing but wtf, "write an essay/chapter. Ask AI to add additional points"?!?!?

OK so where are my historians who are quitting the AHA over these hideous AI guidelines

Be sure to rest! I made the mistake of not resting enough

Like MILFs but terrorists
My electrician is a green card holder who's been here since he was a kid. He got married to a citizen, applied for citizenship, went to court for the papers and when he got there ICE kidnapped him and he's been locked up for a month.

Feel better! It's no fun. I've had something similar for 5+ weeks. Hoping I'm finally seeing the other side of it now....
Just a reminder that at least 600 Americans were fired for failing to show sufficient respect after Charlie Kirk's murder.

“At Texas A&M, internal emails show staff are using AI software to search syllabi and course descriptions for words that could raise concerns under new system policies restricting how faculty teach about race and gender.”

Records obtained by The Texas Tribune show how universities are using the technology to reshape curriculum under political pressure, raising concerns about academic freedom.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

Although exam review sessions are often held in rooms and at times that are not the scheduled room/time for the class
There is an absolute fucking scandal going down at The New School, wherein at appears that the university is funnelling to a MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL’S BOARD while purging faculty and staff.

This should be headline news.

This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

OK students, you know what to do

Brutal but effective public health messaging from New York Public Health.

The CDC is compromised. They’re no longer a reliable source of information.

They push anti-vaxx & anti-science grift.
