heckuva job, bari
Anderson Cooper is leaving 60 Minutes after a two-decade run at the newsmagazine. Cooper decided not to renew his CBS contract amid broader upheaval at the network under David Ellison and Bari Weiss.

I wonder if Elle Fanning's character in Predator: Badlands was inspired by Isabel, the dismembered ghost babysitter from Saga. Probably the closest we will ever get to seeing her onscreen.

155% for oligarchs at home, and 155mm for oligarchs abroad!
This is basically where I'm at

The billionaire, like the dreadnought, is a "threat in being," his mere presence on the board affecting the way we interact with the political domain.

He's great when he's on your side. He's a problem when he isn't. And unlike a dreadnought, we can't control him.
It's kind of funny how Hayek's (mostly correct) argument against central planning because concentrating that much economic power in one place inevitably lead to totalitarian behavior is also a pretty strong argument against like, extreme concentrations of wealth and market power

If you are wondering what words the all-male Congress found so "blasphemous" that they felt compelled to literally scrape them off the monument, they were: ''Woman, first denied a soul, then called mindless, now arisen, declared herself an entity to be reckoned.''
On this day in 1921, Congress reluctantly accepted a sculpture memorializing women’s 19th A victory. Congress relegated the memorial to the Capitol’s crypt & painted over the feminist inscription. The statue stayed entombed in the crypt for 76 years. The inscription is still not restored. #WeTheMen

I see no reason not to look at the online gambling and prediction market craze as a new opioids crisis.

It will wreak havoc on lower-income Americans and leave a trail of destruction and despair in its wake.

The companies are just Purdue Pharma 2.0

You should have to go to Vegas, a reservation casino, or another specific venue to gamble.

That friction matters. And, honestly, the social element matters.

Today, we have people spiraling out into crisis at 3 am in their beds. They’re on the edge of bankruptcy and suicide. On their phones.

I firmly hold that if you're gonna gamble, you should HAVE to do it in person. Some shitty bookie's place in the back of a restaurant, or a casino parlor. Be there in-person. Realize what kind of money you're forking over. Accept that you are a degenerate (derogatory).

Urge your reps to ban Surveillance Pricing and boycott any business that uses it. If it’s allowed to take root, you will be robbed for the rest of your lives.
(1/11) If you live in NY, you’ve probably started seeing a new warning: “THIS PRICE WAS SET BY AN ALGORITHM USING YOUR PERSONAL DATA.” This mandatory disclosure went into effect late last year, and it’s the first attempt by a US state to grapple with a new generation of surveillance pricing.

Conversation is about financial strategies and "currencies."

We have had many weeks where selling plasma made the difference between having gas in the car that day or not. One of the nice parts is you walk out with the money immediately, it doesn't take three days for a check to clear.
My god do we need UBI

“Researchers have found that when a new plasma center opens in a neighborhood, foot traffic at local grocery stores increases, interest in payday loans declines and crime goes down, an indication of the way money from plasma props up households’ finances for necessities.“
Middle-class Americans are selling their plasma to make ends meet
Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.
