Missed this when it came out (was in the field) - agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/... - For Antarctica, tropical aerosol injection transport more strongly affected by the strength of the polar winds; for extratropical injection the season matters more

I think the volcano case illustrates that there is still a lot about aerosol dynamics as captured (or not) in climate models that is still uncertain but that plays a meaningful role in surface climate outcomes relevant to trying to deploy SAI.

IMO there is a pretty big difference between 'here is what we think could happen if the thing that is already happening continues' vs. 'here is what we think might happen when 'we' do something intentionally that has large uncertainties and has massive ethical and justice issues'.

The defense that this was just an adjustment based on better data is self-serving BS.

We do *not* know what the 100-yr flood level is - even if we had perfect DEMs.

Even if we had perfect historical data, non-stationarity means we don’t know what the level is *now*, let alone in the future.

Of course, Douglass went on not only to found the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research at the University of Arizona, but was also the first Director of the Steward Observatory and played the major role in getting it funded and built

A.E. Douglass (founder of the science of dendrochronology) got fired by Percival Lowell for questioning the existence of 'canals' on Mars. Douglass was out of science for many years before getting a position at the University of Arizona. He would be expected to teach physics & physical geography:
