When I lived in NYC, every time I mentioned that I volunteer for NYC Pride I would have to brace myself for a sneering conversation about "corporate pride" and needling me on if I've considered the Queer Liberation March

And yet over 1 mil attend NYC Pride so someone has to be showing up

I always point out that a single queer kid feeling slightly more accepted after seeing cheap Pride merch at a Target in Buttcracksville, Idaho is more important than every radical queer theorists’ entire body of work combined, and I will hopefully never budge on that statement

This stuff was just on an absolutely industrial scale. This is a girl who was aged 14 to 16 and she alone saw Epstein *100 times*. This, btw, was at the peak of Epstein's influence and his celebrity friendships:

Hard to escape the idea that people don't actually care that much about material conditions and just do everything according to their mood. I found that sock I lost in the dryer yesterday so the economy is doing great. I cut myself shaving this morning so a recession must be imminent.

However! You never know if you're going to end up in a 2000 style election, where we'd be living in a whole different world right now if Gore had poured just a little more money into Ohio, so of course you campaign anyway. That small number may matter. Odds are usually against it though.

Also like, trump ran a dogshit campaign where he was pretending to suck off microphones and saying "let's make it a musical-fest" while people were passing out from heat exhaustion. Voters just wanted radical change, they threw out the incumbent party all over the world
no one wants to read the truth, that Harris ran a very good campaign that substantially moved the needle in her direction but it wasn't enough to overcome a hostile environments driven by factors outside her or anyone's control
OPINION by @zeeshanaleem.bsky.social:

“That the DNC is mothballing whatever audit it could bring itself to conduct underscores that the party remains petrified of its own reflection.”

There’s a visceral level of psychopathy necessary to put your name on a memorial for a president that was assassinated that I’m fundamentally incapable of understanding.

The sheer sense of inability to comprehend an existence of things outside yourself like this is astounding.
Here we go…

For me, the peak example of “the Academy is very dumb and spiteful” is:
1) They chose Driving Miss Daisy over Do The Right Thing,
2) regretted it almost immediately but
3) refused to give Spike Lee an Oscar for 29 years and
4) when they finally relented, chose The Green Brook for Best Picture
wow, i did not know about this

Gere has never been nominated for an Academy Award, including being the only main cast member of Best Picture winner "Chicago" to not get a nod
How srsly does Hollywood take China? This 1993 Oscar night moment, where Richard Gere made a personal plea to Deng Xiaoping to withdraw Chinese troops from Tibet, won the actor a 20-year-ban from the show. Will Smith only got a 10-year ban for slapping Chris Rock. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZy6...

Not only this but the Daily Wire continues to put people like Matt Walsh and Michael Knowles in front of a massive audience where it allows them to routinely advocate extreme right-wing views.

Ben’s political project has been a massive cause of all of this.
Candace was dabbling in this stuff at THE DAILY WIRE, she literally built her audience there under the tutelage of Ben, he’s as responsible for the rise of antisemitism in the GOP as anyone

as I've said before, a lot of the root problems with LLMs is that they're bad at the things we think computers should be good at, and good at the things we think computers should be bad at.
For some reason, people struggle to understand that indexing is precisely the sort of task LLMs *can’t do*, for the same reason they can’t solve complex equations - rather like cold-reading mediums, they’re good at vibes but fail when exacting precision and accuracy is required

it is extremely funny that the American populace unironically treated the era of seeing of "help wanted" signs as a bad sign
I think the direction of travel matters. from 2020-22 we had a) the most generous welfare state in US history b) the tightest labor market in 60 years, and now both are gone and we are right back to ~2014 ish job market except interest rates are high

I think this strengthens the case for Stancilism.

Immediate post pandemic economy was *weird* in a way that made it hard to compare it to similar years.

But we've got low unemployment and low inflation now. Very hard to make the case that now is worse than the Volcker shock.

god the full court press about how "no one wants to work any more" during the Biden years was relentless
My boomer coworker complained endlessly about no one wanting to work as state unemployment levels hovered around 2.0% because service at the restaurants was slower because everyone with an option got the fuck out of the service industry.

also I think this site's thinky tendencies mean it underestimates that people in real life hook up at short notice much more than you'd think. I have literally seen a guy and girl wordlessly agree that they were going to go off and have sex *during a group dinner when they just met*
I think this underestimates the capabilities of male self-delusion. Liam is a Thinky Boy. Most people aren't.
Discussion elsewhere on the internet dot com about male willingness to sleep with attractive strangers and, just, like, speaking as a man - even if I were single, the level of persuading I'd need that a random attractive woman claiming to want to sleep with me wasn't up to something nefarious?...

imo the actual threat to capital-A America is not the Trump administration but that the Trump administration's behaviors will not be disincentivized enough

flip-flopping back and forth between breaking things and fixing things every 4-8 years means eventually it'll stay broken
Stuff like this will obviously be very easy to undo and clearly will be undone, like it would be totally non-controversial even with the most milquetoast new Dem POTUS you could imagine, but it is genuinely just Not Good when even the basic names of institutions start ping ponging every 4-8 years
