actual numbers suggest that this narrative of systematic discrimination against white millennial men is bullshit.

Side note from a Jewish person.

Not all Jews are Israeli, and not all Israelis are Jews.

You can share your empathy and grief without having to comment on a completely different geo-political nation state.

We can’t be aspirational?! The far-right can be as aspirationally bigoted, racist, transphobic, and white Christian Nationalist as they want and we can’t hope for affordable food, healthcare, and education?! We can’t hope for a livable planet and livable wages?! GTFO.

The fact that we have super wealthy and extremely stupid people trying to set themselves up as new nobles has made historical nobility, which I only know from books, far more real to me. These people were not smart, they did not rule well, and rigid hierarchies of domination are very bad.

Everyone is selling innovation and none of it works. What if I started an agency that sold denovation. Build you a last-gen project that actually fucking works.

I spend so much time verifying everything now from art to cited sources to photos to historical references to citations to quotes to legal and medical information that it's really hard to fathom how much work AI has collectively added to the world, not reduced
Here's the reality this example illustrates:

It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).

Not every job requires a college degree. But higher education is about so much more than job training, and every kid deserves affordable access to it. Public support of higher education is an investment in a shared future that we all benefit from.

Coming off Thanksgiving, and @theradr.bsky.social has a banger of an article.

The coda is going to stick me with a while: “We must choose life, every day. “Every policy. With every risk. Every effort.
“Which doesn't mean that it's easy.
“Only that it's the most important thing in the world.”

Exciting news: my union @pen-guild.bsky.social won our fight to hold management accountable for rolling out AI tools with no notice & for failing to hold the bots to the same standards all of us humans must follow — in violation of the contract they agreed to. A neutral arbiter said we were right!
PEN Guild wins landmark arbitration on AI protections - Washington-Baltimore News Guild
This marks one of the first major labor-arbitration rulings on the impact of AI on journalism, setting an important precedent for the U.S. news industry.

I think one of the big problems with AI is that it's never about making my life easier in ways I want it to. "Oh it makes art so you don't have to" but I want to make art! I don't want to snake out dirty drains and pick up dog shit out of my yard. Focus on making the robots do that kind of stuff!

Tech Company- At long last, we have created the The Shield Corporation from classic sci-fi movie Highlander II: The Quickening
A 25-person startup is developing technology to block the sun and turn down the planet’s thermostat.

The stakes are huge — and the company and its critics say regulations need to catch up.

Hoo boy. We are all in such trouble.
It's also vastly easier and cheaper for media outlets to produce culture war content than policy stuff.

With policy, you have to find actual experts that are available and willing, then pray they're good entertaining communicators.

On culture shit, you start with a talking head and work backwards.
This chart (which applies even more to social media than it did to TV) lives in my head rent free.

Social media enveloping traditional media means everything and everyone is now competing in the entertainment market. Boring stuff like policy that affects millions of lives doesn’t stand a chance.

It is the architecture of disordered discourse, automated.

Shit it down. All of it.

Best typo ever - I’m keeping it. Obvs meant ‘shut’.

AI is a fucking menace, and these companies should be held accountable and prevented from doing further ‘business’.

We don’t need these tools and never asked for them.

Regulate the living shit out of these tech orgs.
