Underrated horse feature
a thing that really stuck with me from a historical novel I read years ago was a guy leaving a tavern v drunk and getting in his carriage confident that his horse knows the way home

Princess Liselotte was an incredibly snarky lady, I appreciate her
Reading letters from the Princess Liselotte of Palantine, the German sister-in-law of Louis XIV, and it's wild because she had this super informal writing style that almost sounds like modern texts

Like at one point she goes "wish to god my son didn't love holding chunks of bread like a peasant"

Amazing how the Seattle Times made sure to say ICE detaining indigenous people is "rare" TWICE but Miles said it's happened to two of her family members.
“When the men did not believe Miles’ tribal ID, she pointed to a phone number for the Umatilla Tribal enrollment office on the back of the card.

“Call it,” she said.

When they didn’t, she took out her phone to call the office herself, but the agents tried unsuccessfully to take her phone...”
‘Northern Exposure’ actor gave ICE agents in Redmond her tribal ID. They called it ‘fake,’ she says
Indigenous actor Elaine Miles of "Northern Exposure" was detained by ICE at a Redmond bus stop. When she showed them her Tribal ID, they told her it was fake.

Pro tip: if you’re using butter to make a roux, boil off the water before you add the flour to avoid clumping. Store bought butter has a lot of water in it.

The conspiracy here is that water is a cheaper ingredient than dairy, so butter manufacturers add as much as they legally can to reduce cost

This is a flaw in the way capitalists have designed the modern economy, not in us.

"Device hoarding" is GOOD for the environment and for our individual wallets.

"Devices" used to be made to last 10+ years—or lifetimes!

Sewing machines from the 1890s and typewriters from the 1910s still work!
If a phone still works fine, it’s not “device hoarding” to keep using it. It’s common sense.
