especially in the dark hours we need to remember that we are going to win
Worth noting, I guess, that inside of a year we've gone from administration officials taking selfies of themselves at CECOT and bragging about how it's hell on earth to now getting their horrible little media worms to kill stories about it

The thing where Trump names everything after himself isn’t a funny little quirk but an incredibly reliable indicator that a leader is in fact a dictator. It doesn’t happen in any democratic society, no sane leader does it

Absolutely staggering to consider the deadweight loss that AI has caused educators in terms of burdening them by making cheating easier, and how little our society's elites care
Across the country, a small but growing number of educators are experimenting with oral exams to circumvent the temptations presented by powerful artificial intelligence platforms such as ChatGPT.
To AI-proof exams, professors turn to the oldest technique of all

A well-lived life involves doing a lot of thankless, constant, mostly-uninteresting effort and that's something that will be lost on people who mostly experience life through fictional narrative, or even non-fiction told in a narrative style

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

The main thing I want you to understand is that if you're like an unironic Bluesky liberal the people who control the heights of American culture and the intelligentsia genuinely despise you and would prefer the company of fascist pedophiles.

on the one hand this is extremely tragic, because it means people don't remember how much we've lost. on the other hand, it does mean that someone like Mamdani who can break through and have both a positive message, and a chew with their mouth closed and actually be professional and adult stuns them
Gen Z has a hard time contextualizing how aberrant Trump is because he's been the focal point of US politics for a decade at this point. Like I have a bunch of fully adult coworkers who don't really have much political consciousness that predates 2015.
The media failed broadly, and continues to do so, but in particular Gen Z media and Latino media REALLY fucked up. Built an entirely fake fucking candidate to vote for.

The thing about Trump is that he was a phenomenon we might never actually see again - coddled by the press almost from the womb and famous for most of his life - and betting that things will stay the same when he's dead seems like a mistake, but what do I know, I just post online

You can tell it's not about crime when they start listing shit they want to get rid of. It gets into contempt of the aesthetics of addiction and homelessness and ethnic communities. Crime is the failure of the outgroup to make itself invisible, not concrete harm to society.

I think we should do Trump-is-dead speculation every time we get a clean chance, it’s clearly great for team morale.

If you’re not into it, I dunno, post cat pics or something and enjoy the downstream benefits of other people being in a good mood

Kaleb spent so much time worrying about finding full time work and that was obscene because he was one of the best writers out there, someone I always wanted to be more like as a writer. What this system does to its best is a crime.
It seems that Kaleb Horton has passed away. A devastating loss. One of the best writers of this generation. Kaleb was a friend for ten years and in all our conversations I was trying to convince him how good he was, something he seemed to know but also never fully believe. I am going to go cry now.

It was an extremely blackpilling moment when people got furious at the idea of democrats paying influencers. everyone on the side of democracy thinks they’re too good to be a party hack, everyone opposed to it embraces the role with glee.
But changing that requires a level of involvement and discipline that a lot of D-bashers actually have no appetite for.
