We answer the question: are AI data centers making power bills go up for the rest of us. Yes. But of course it’s more complicated than that. Listen:
Has your power bill gone up a lot recently? If so, the reason might be AI data centers and the infrastructure needed to bring them power. On our latest episode, we go to Ohio to figure out which part of the electricity system is most to blame for high prices.

An industry is 100% white: nothing to see here

An industry becomes 99% white: grab the rocket launchers, file the lawsuits, make up the imaginary white men who are being discriminated against otherwise we will all die

I often come back to a quote from the late great Michael Brooks: “Be ruthless with systems, be kind to people."

A reminder of where power lies, where most criticism should be directed, and the importance of building solidarity with others.

I’m happy. This simple policy will save me a whole lot of sanity. It’s a bummer for the anonymous folks who genuinely want to engage and argue, but until we get some sensible policy I can’t be bothered to spend my time debating what very well may be a machine

The “yelling at strangers” phase of the Internet was fun while it lasted. But with the advance of AI, that age is coming to an end. Do not engage in the era of “yelling at robots on the internet.” No good can come of it.

Welp. I guess "Wrath of Man" (2021), Jason Statham vehicle, was my Christmas movie this year.

I actually like Jason Statham in things, though I don't watch a lot if his stuff, and this might be only the second Guy Ritchie movie I've seen?

I was surprised to enjoy every second of it!

Several pissed off peeps have rocked up in this thread. In the past, I entertained angry anonymous posters because I’m a glutton for discourse, and I knew they were real.

Now, new policy: I will only actively disagree with people on the internet who are named and known.
Friendly neighborhood biologist here again. I’ve been seeing lots of post on how simple biological sex is. Since sex in society is such a hot-button issue these days, we should be able to find the basis of biological sex in law, right? Let’s do it! Let’s find the basis of sex, round 2! 🧵
Friendly neighborhood biologist here. I see a lot of people are talking about biological sexes right now. Lots of folks make biological sex seem really simple. Well, since it’s so simple, let’s find the biological roots, shall we? Let’s talk about sex...[a thread]

Sparks of Hope for $6 is legitimately insane. You can’t get anything Mario related for less than $30 on most days. And Sparks of Hope is actually very good. If you haven’t played it yet, go get it.

This data is saying that the video game industry is going to "recover" in the next 5 years

But *actually*, it says that MOBILE revenue will recover, while PC and console games will fully stagnate

so that's fun!

Something that’s been giving me so much peace is the idea that we all have limited tokens of attention, so when we give strangers and trolls our attention, we’re giving them our limited tokens, depriving our actual friends.

Being good to our real friends means cutting out the people pleading.

I was thinking about bumper stickers and what they mean politically. It's pretty hard to find whimsical and silly bumper stickers and believe the person is MAGA. All of the MAGA indicators are either religious or hyper-aggressive.

Anger is their neutral state.

I was there for that. I had the old "taco" 3DS. Got it at launch! Man, it had nothing at launch. And those GBA games were RUSHED out the door.
Idk I think it's funny we're having "They don't make them like they used to" posts about the 3DS when I remember the launch of that being so awful Nintendo cooked up a weird early adopter apology package of GBA games that didn't run too well

I think doing the review for this was legit traumatizing. If you've never done a pre-release review you have no idea what it's like to be absolutely terrified of being the outlier review only for people to tear you to shreds when you're the only one that didn't like it.
