TV is broken. The streamers broke it. A thing that worked beautifully and made everyone tons of money is now a thing that frustrates and maddens both fans and artists. It can be saved... but only if studios abandon the Wall Street fantasy of infinite growth instead of doubling down on it.
Today in “this could easily run for 10 seasons & employ a lot of talented people & make many viewers happy & help retain subscribers but the powers that be decided to NOT do all that for Reasons” 😡
The punches just keep coming 💔

Dreamspinner Press is doing calls for submissions, so this is just a quick reminder that they stole a bunch of money from a lot of authors who have never been paid their outstanding royalties.

I think the reviving of union power has them scared shitless and AI is a near religious belief that computers will save them from unions

All of this is true, and in addition, when we stop using AI art, it stops using water and electricity, but if we stop using human artists, the human still exists and has needs that must be met.
An AI datacenter devours enough water and electricity for a whole city of people each day.

A human artist only takes up as much electricity and water as any single human.

This is why, even if we settle copyrights and such, AI will always be immoral. Just pay a human.

AI-generated art (if you wanna call it that) is like Google Glass and the Metaverse. It’s not that most people don’t want it in their lives, they actually actively despise it. It’s a product that generates feelings of loathing rather than delight; dismay rather than joy.

Books designed to be read only by human eyes are different from books designed to be read by machines, which is why Google will tell you that the phrase “shake my booty” can be found in an 1863 English translation of Don Quixote.

Pretty depressing day at work today with lots of staff updating their resumes as we grapple with NASA's decision to shut down Chandra, the world's only ever high resolution X-ray space telescope, still returning fabulous science discoveries. Still hoping this can be reversed

who could I have guessed that people are more likely to use bikes if they don’t feel they’re at risk of being suddenly splattered by a ChildCrusher 5000 GTX at any moment
Shocker... a study out of Cambridge, Massachusetts confirmed that separated bike lanes significantly increase the number of cyclists and reduce driving.
