If everyone who opposed the president's secret police was a paid protestor the economy would be rocking
ICE keeps saying the people protesting it are being paid without any evidence, but we have receipts showing that the people *defending* ICE are absolutely being paid.

And yet we only hear lies about the former on cable news.
relevant to the debate over whether we should keep funding DHS without reforms and accountability for how out of control their spending is

Same playbook as Chicago. I often reminded people that the Trump raids created recessions in Little Village, Pilsen, Belmont Cragin and a bunch more neighborhoods and suburbs that felt the chill.

LOL. That assumes Democrats in Congress disagree with the rank cowardice of their leaders.

They don't. Schumer and Jeffries are there because they speak for most Democrats who want to talk about eggs and not ICE.

So you were a Paul Tsongas guy?

... the year it "went wrong" was 2000 when the Supreme Court appointed the president based on their partisan desires, and soon after that illigetimate president responded to a terrorist attack by attacking the wrong country and installing more SCOTUS justices.

This is not just the left, I assure you!
The left is obsessed with imagining that something even worse is coming around the corner rather than dealing with the current horrors we are facing. The threat of Trump “cancelling the midterms” is toothless compared to the threat of continuing to occupy cities and overthrow foreign governments.
the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?

America has always been an argument. An argument between a wealthy white few ready to kill or control the rest to seize more money & power and the bravest possible people determined to make the promise of life, liberty & yes happiness apply to all, no exceptions.
On the ground here in Minnesota, it’s hard to reconcile the immense bonds of community that have been built in a week with the fact that we live in a country whose government appropriated billions of dollars to an unaccountable paramilitary force whose sole purpose is ethnic cleansing.

Correct.

Dems/patriots should be straight-up committed to abolishing ICE.

We must never again have masked, armed, untrained, unscreened, embittered rogue agents patrolling our streets, destroying civil order rather than trying to maintain it.

Empowered by 'Kavanaugh stop' and 'Roberts waiver.'
ICE must be abolished. It has become a lawless, rogue agency. Federal law enforcement agencies must follow the law, if they're going to have any credibility enforcing it.

We are demanding justice for Renee Good and the prosecution of ICE agent Jonathan Ross for her murder.

The deck is stacked in about 10 different ways to give extra power and money to rural areas, but it's never enough. Right wing propaganda continues to tell them they are out upon victims powerless against the mighty cities.
Stage 5 pundit-brain is watching an innocent woman being killed by agents of the state and going, "hmm this says a lot about the urban-rural divide in America."

Obama was quite good at this. he was against Iraq in 2003 even though that was very unpopular at the time, but in 2008 that won him the primary against HRC
More Dems need to think about skating to where the puck will be not where it is.

All indications are Trump's brain has turned to mush and no one around him will even try to control his worst impulses.

He will just get way crazier and more evil and unpopular by November.

Another thing you should know about the Twin Cities, if you're not here, is that while the mayor and governor tell us to stay calm on TV, our council members and other local electeds are on the street patrolling and protecting neighbors, doing mutual aid, and otherwise serving the community.

what pisses me off to no end is that I live in a super rural area in MN, I’m a middle aged white man, but they always find these chuds to speak for me. Here’s a thought, maybe don’t go to the bar at 10am on a weekday and expect to find deep thinkers.

This whole article is a fucking insult

This is the dynamic across most of America: Liberal cities generate revenue, which state governments then transfer to benefit conservative rural areas, whose residents despite city-dwellers and consistently vote to harm them. But politicians endlessly pander to rural voters and demonize cities.
Another critical piece of missing context in this story: tax dollars flow from the MSP metro to rural Minnesota. People in the city subsidize the lifestyles of people living in the country minnesotareformer.com/2023/12/04/t...
