Your hands are covered in little men. And the little men can make you sick if you don’t give them a bath. Sometimes they make other people sick too. Please give the little men a bath! I’m not crazy! Just listen to me! Bathe the little men on your hands! This is real! Get the men wet, you fools!

It is essential to remember that Sensible centrists got everything they wanted in the UK.

The left smashed, their Competent Sensible politicians won by a landslide last year and have a huge majority and the policies they dreamed of implemented.

And the result is endless horror.

Anyway, to sum up what I was arguing in that other thread, arguing in favor of a "basic definition of Christianity" that excludes hundreds of millions of self-identified Christians over two millennia is not and never will be a "basic definition of Christianity."

Every sect of every religion is doing fan fiction of a holy scripture, itself a work of fan fiction cobbled together by powerful interests to exclude what they believed should be consigned to "apocrypha." Looking for ideological consistency across these texts and centuries is a fool's errand.

We really need to stop fetishizing the noble rurals and call it like it is. They built their own perfect right wing utopia and it killed their communities, their businesses and themselves.
To piggyback off of John's point (reposted), it's struck me lately how the baseline level of friendliness in cities has always seemed remarkably higher than the suburbs or rural areas to me, and I think it's because everyone is used to interacting with strangers as a routine part of their day

as everyone knows, going on a date with a woman and then not having sex with her at the end of it is literally a fate worse than death, and not just a normal thing that people do all the time, whether as a one-off activity or part of a process of getting to know someone better
Yes where else could men possibly receive this scorching insight

Saavik is of course correct. Wrath of Khan is the first time Kirk faces certain death, and the Enterprise is saved only because Spock sacrifices his life. His arrogance and the mistakes of his past come a whisker from destroying him.

I'm glad the "double tap" order is drawing justified outrage over this administration's murderous policy, but here's the thing: One dinky, easily intercepted boat that *might* have drugs on it poses exactly as much threat to U.S. security as a couple of survivors clinging to driftwood... Zero.

The "students are pretending to be disabled to get accommodations" sounds a whole hell of a lot like the "welfare queen" bullshit to me.

Was watching a recent-ish Jeopardy! with family (we're always playing catch-up) and the category was song lyrics and the answer gave lyrics from a country song that's like "cold beer, ripped jeans" etc. and I was like do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?

Move over Johnny Appleseed, there's a new tree-spreading legend: Johnny Alligator!

Let's talk about alligators & crocodiles as seed dispersers.

We'll start with what this happy gator has in her mouth: a pond apple (Annona glabra), also called an ALLIGATOR APPLE.

As a person raised Mormon, it's always so funny to me when other Christians act like Mormons aren't because they have their own scripture/prophets when most Christians firmly believe that aspects of their faith made up by St. Augustine or Dante are from the Bible.

i recently gained access to the last Cray supercomputer owned by the CIA. Last used at Langley to calculate the solubility of LSD in coffee, I fed 10 years of posts into this profoundly evil machine. it produced a map of internet discourse hell designed to make any who gaze upon it go mad with rage

I vibehacked a fun little sight reader app that runs in browser. Works with MIDI in Chrome; you play and if you get all the notes right you go to the next level of complexity. It doesn't save any data to a server, it just is. ftrain.github.io/sightreading/ (Source at github.com/ftrain/sight...)

Honestly, this would be like if when Kennedy was president, the entire Republican opposition was a bunch of Herbert Hoover staffers and their hangers on.
And this isn't your imagination, or a fake problem I'm fabricating to get mad at. It's a few weeks until 2026 and we still have the opinions of *James Carville* force-fed to us like fois gras geese every 2-3 months. This is not normal. It's not. It's not supposed to work like this.

Diagnostic testing is time consuming and expensive, of course kids with wealthy parents — or fortunate enough to have parents with time and good health insurance — are more likely to be diagnosed!
"Rich kids are gaming disability accommodations to gain an unfair advantage" is actually very different from "America has an extra-time-on-tests problem" — and the author hasn't proved that either! Rich kids might just be more likely to be diagnosed.

Rep. Kat Cammarck: "Today, one in six people in the US is foreign born. That quite frankly is not sustainable to maintain a culture that we are known for here in the United States."

Decided my evening drinking was becoming too much of a habit, so I stopped having a little nightcap on Sunday. Have had the worst 2 consecutive nights of sleep in months.

I'm out of the loop wrt contemporary music, but I've been dying to just sit and watch music videos recently. Turns out the Roku app has multiple Vevo channels, and recently I saw the Sabrina Carpenter (in the news today, for good reason!) video for "Manchild" and what a fun, refreshing video!
