Bluesky 3-cueing:

1) find a shibboleth in a post
2) search someone’s profile for proof they’re a shitlib
3) feel the way the big account that hates the poster wants you to feel

Current right wing trends are entirely about woo and vibes over science, fact, and evidence. We are farther away from what you're describing as being ascendant in conservatism than we have ever been in my lifetime. If anything what you are describing is the reactionary view.
I am beginning to develop a suspicion of national decline based in elevating STEM nerds to dangerously high social positions, because their tendency to believe that "anything that cannot be properly measured should not be argued for" is being more revealed by the day as an inherently reactionary one

Does your family maintain any holiday traditions that would seem weird as hell to outsiders?

Every year on Christmas Day I dress up like Ralphie in the pink bunny suit from A Christmas Story (1983). I pretend to be upset long enough for a few pictures.

A lot of the same people who are gleefully insisting that Thompson “absolutely had it coming” for being a health insurance executive are probably appalled at the Trump administration claiming that due process doesn’t apply to non-citizens (or even citizens in some cases).

Also, you also don't want to make people uncomfortable. I had a lovely woman I really liked literally invite herself over to my apartment one weekend. I was so focused on making sure she didn't feel obligated to do anything she finally had to explicitly tell me exactly what she was there for.
Discussion elsewhere on the internet dot com about male willingness to sleep with attractive strangers and, just, like, speaking as a man - even if I were single, the level of persuading I'd need that a random attractive woman claiming to want to sleep with me wasn't up to something nefarious?...

Ultimately I can speak only for myself, but I certainly have these concerns. Despite lots of talk on funding AI ambitions, it does not seem like funding for retaining old talent or recruiting new talent has followed.
Data managers worry lack of funding, staffing will hinder AI ambitions - WatersTechnology.com

the llm is basically a backhoe. it will do so many things so much better than me that making a point of artisanally digging the ditch sounds like a joke. there are a lot of things you cannot do with a backhoe
my work product is vastly inferior to the llm for certain things and at some point you kind of just have to accept that. i am never going to out-boilerplate the llm or read a repo to find a specific function i know the logical purpose of but not the name of faster than it does

as usual: no, outside of the SFBA hype circle, nobody believes that

and that is different from whether the work product of a properly managed and directed LLM is superior to the raw work product of a human, which is different from whether the human has other value-adds to the process

"oh, this cruel poster who hates children". No. I love children. But I also love children from the standpoint of knowing that when you have a child, that child will almost certainly bury you. You are not doing them any favors if you are trying to make them your pet.

I went to see The VVitch with one of my best friends and I think somewhere towards there one of us reflexively prayed out loud a little bit, we were so freaked out. I also went on a dinner date afterwards and got told she'd never seen me so pale.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
