I do wish this article did more to point out that only a very, very small number of trans people/families will ever be able to get any kind of residence visa abroad and push back on the person who got pissy at their friend who pointed out that they were tremendously privileged to be able leave
This is a really good New Republic article about trans people leaving the country. Do some research about getting visas. Start now. It is harder and slower than you think, and there are no opportunities for asylum right now. It also is entirely doable.
