The Democratic Party's formula for the last 50 years has been "Let's be friendly with extreme wealth and maybe we can also get modest policy wins sometimes." The last 10 years and this year in particular should be conclusive proof of how badly this has failed. But we're stuck with it anyway

This is basically the core misery at the heart of the current RW movement. A complete lack of human feelings or emotions, just raw unfiltered sociopathic behavior the entire way down.
ultimately, no one even grieved Charlie Kirk. he was just another thing for the worst people on earth to get outraged over. and when the outrage of real events wasn't enough, they invented new ones.

not even his wife saw his death as anything other than an opportunity.
my read is they were trying to whip up the usual frenzy, but then the effort got blown up by Candace Owens saying The Jews did it

for years and years the media covered CPAC as the biggest story in the world each year (you can debate whether it merited that coverage), then the moment it was over went back to pretending the parade of clowns and psychos they JUST COVERED weren't relevant to anything going on in politics

yeah i'm not being funny but most arguments against rent controls, while they may be /economically/ sound, are bad from the perspective of /political/ economy
Um, ok...

This paper forthcoming at the JOP provides evidence that rent control in Germany actually made tenants MASSIVELY *less* NIMBY.

This result was in the opposite direction of the authors' pre-registered expectations.

And the effect sizes are, truly, massive.

I once helped teach an experiential learning class about the Israel-Palestine conflict to UC Berkeley students that culminated in a trip to the region. Traveling overland from Jordan to Israel, Arab-American students were subjected to this sort of treatment. I’ll never forget it.
It's not just social media. Looks like visitors to the US from Europe and other countries that are part of the visa waiver program will have to submit an enormous amount of data about themselves and their families, including DNA, if proposed new rules are accepted

For Trump, declining to 36 percent approval is “good news.”

For Biden, holding steady at 41% is “a source of concern.”

Under the Trump admin’s new policy, dependent children of visa applicants are not allowed to have their social media set to private during the entire visa process. They MUST make their social media public.
