When people ask how our forebears managed to get by without all these modern pills and injections and doctor visits my fave response is "They died, Becky! Most of them just DIED!"
Currently dorking out over this graph about child mortality with my brother. Just mind boggling to take in.

Reposting this because I'm actually super fucking proud of it. After a month of posting old Alien art, I drew a new one based on a design I didn't think I liked, and you know what...? I think it might actually be my favourite Alien drawing to date.
The final piece for Xenovember! 30 days of the #xenomorph, and to celebrate, I figured I'd round it out with something I've never really given proper dues to...

I’ll never get over that scam artists have artist specific scams. Like you really have to be a certain type of person to come up with something that promises hope to some of the least financially well off people by and large and then snatches it and whatever funds they have away

it's not as simple as "hardware has gotten better, software has gotten worse" because a lot of companies making physical devices are lost in the wilderness from a design perspective, but a rule of thumb that anything that charges you monthly gets worse over time works pretty well

Neurotypical folks should not be using ADHD-brain tricks to hit our dopamine sweet-spot, it’ll just make you miserable.

None of you have the brain wiring for this kind of nonsense.
She's right, and I'll go further - when you're looking at your phone and you look up to look at the thing you're quote unquote "watching" you're annoyed at it, because it's distracting you from your phone. I noticed this recently, splitting my attention this way made me irritated with the 2nd thing.
Oh my god. She's 1000% right. This makes so much sense.

Everything in real estate is marketing puffery, and when you’re buying — new OR resale — you need the grumpiest, most irascible inspector you can find. Someone who is impossibly disappointed in the state of the trades. Even buying As Is. You need to know what pig in what poke you’re buying.

I cannot co-sign this hard enough.
Saying you "coded for 36 hours straight" is something only people who have never programmed, and have no idea what programming is, would think is an impressive thing.

It is a claim that literally would not even fool a first year CS student. They'd laugh at you for saying it.

What's hilarious is that competent programmers, as well as people studying programming for the very first time, know that all code you write after about 4 hours is garbage. Totally useless, none of it worth salvaging.

Actual programmers hear "I coded for 36 hours" and hear "I gooned for 36 hours"
